Anyone have a hard date on this? I have seen it will be in Florida and I have told my wife that when it is back there we will do Disney for the kids. Trying to book everything since it costs 4 slide fires at this point and I can't just pay cash.

Figuring it will be at universal in Frostproof (30 mins from my dads) so it makes it worth while (my bday, visit dad, kids super happy, etc).

I gotta start paying for this crap now to make it happen.

Help me stamp down the dates
 
It's going to be at the OK Corral in Okeechobee. Unsure on the firm date but I think they said late April or early may.

If you want to shoot universal there is the Florida championship in January and the Florida open in February(I may hit that one).

Edit: OK Corral's calendar shows events blocked for the Area 6 Championship 4/9-4/15(assuming the match would be Thursday-Sunday).

Well crap, that changes everything. I figured it would be at universal and my dad lives 30 mins from there. It always happens around my bday so I know estimated dates but location changes everything. Still might work out, just dont want to make a plan for a week vacation, spending way too much money, unless I have a date and (now a location) locked down. Gonna take some payments for the Disney thing, good gosh that is expensive.

Edit to add: as per the OK calendar it will be a week earlier this year. I am really glad I am asking, gotta put in the pto days for my wife and I. She jumped the gun. Got family all over Florida planning BBQ's and parties all around us being there.

I hope everything works out on the trip for you and the family. Area 6 next year is not a viable match for me. Don't forget to schedule in enough practice for the match between now and then so you feel prepared.
 
What’s the nearest airport? Orlando?

Area 5, 7 and 8 matches are looking better than this. New Hampshire is beautiful in the summer.

What defines better to you? To me the point of a big match is 1) to bring the most heat from the furthest around and 2) shoot challenging stages that you might not see at just a club match. Just as a proxy, looking at 2017 for those matches:

Area 5: 23 GMs, 39Ms, 343 Shooters
Area 6: 40 GMs, 76Ms, 559 Shooters
Area 7: 11 GMs, 27Ms, 291 Shooters
Area 8: 22GMs, 40Ms, 488 Shooters

Heard from two local shooters at Nationals, sounds like OK Corral is a super nice facility with good food. Not sure who's going to run the match, but their club matches look pretty good. Not sure what my calendar next year looks like, but A6 looks like a strong contender.

But having a match with a bunch of heat in decent driving distance sounds good to me.

Have A5 and A8 announced times and locations yet?

Better is an area match that is at most a ~5-6 hour drive from home or within driving distance from vacation. Most of A8 fits the driving criteria and my wife and I were look at spending a week in Maine this summer, which would put me really close to New Hampshire and the A7 Chanpionship. I guess A5 really doesn’t check too many boxes.

Mostly I’m just venting that I’ll be driving 10+ hours or flying to A6. It was a great match last year and I’ll be there again this year.


I haven’t seen dates for A5 or A8.
