My mind conjures three visions of what this looks like.

1) I don't leave my fob outside, but there are so many easier targets that nothing bad happens to my car.
2) Someone kicks at my door with the "Perhaps you haven't heard..." attitude.
3) Anyone who doesn't leave their fob outside gets their car set on fire as a warning to everyone else.
 
So basically the police can’t stop these thieves, the laws/courts aren’t deterring them, so citizens should simply surrender their vehicles to prevent their homes from being invaded.

Yeahhh, that makes sense. Sounds like it’s time to vote out everyone in power who is aligned with this nonsense.

this was foreseeable:
stop punishing petty crimes/thefts and criminals will just escalate.
i'm utterly shocked and appalled that criminals would do such a thing!

just waiting to see how all this absurdity ends at this point . . . .

Here's the insidious thing. It is intentionally being done for the purpose of disrupting society to enable a color revolution. Furthermore, statistically, blacks commit crime at a much higher rate and also are more likely to have a lower socioeconomic status, leading to more petty and victimless crimes, such as the proverbial tail light being out. So, the dark side leverages these facts by claiming that policing or prosecuting them is racist. Given that the westernized nations largely have sufficient economic and social mobility that class would never work as a pressure point for a communist revolt, they are using race instead. Beginning to see the picture?

It's not just happening in the US, but much of the westernized world.

I completely understand rural areas being 'lawless' so to speak - been like that forever
I guess what seems new is that it is occurring in urban areas overtly
And the open admission by the police department = why are we paying you with our tax $$ if you ain't gonna do jack?

Generalizations [aka stereotypes] exist because they are generally true, that is a fact.
The powers that be have just figured out how to twist and weaponize them for their own agenda.

Destabilize society, enact control mechanisms to 'protect' citizens and traipse down that path towards complete control in the name of the state

The US is different from the rest of the western world tho - a subset of citizens have an enormous amount of firepower; that will come into play at some point.

"Rules for thee, not for me" right there. Remember when Texas started bussing migrants to northern states calling for open borders and their attitude changed? I am not advocating for the theft or destruction of property, just saying its real easy to say 'let em steal your car' when it isn't YOUR car being stolen.
 
A company I worked for had an office in Toronto. Then they bought a building that needed renovating. When we went for permitting for the renovation, The city told them in writing what they would like for them to do with the building which had nothing to do with what the company did for a living. The city wanted day cares, free clinics, socialism type "self help" centers, etc. Lawyers got involved and we finally got the permits. Those people are crazy. You'd have to be crazy to live that far north of the equater.

FYI the average redneck Canadian is just like us…they hate Trudeau and the fact that he’s giving away the country to immigrants. In this case legal but substantially government subsidized.
 
I was in Toronto last week for work. It was the first time I'd been since before Covid. I noticed that there seemed like a lot more homeless on the street than I remember. There was one guy camped out right next to the convention center who just yelled and harassed everyone who walked by and nobody paid him any attention.
