Just got off the WebEx that the ATF put on about braces. If I am understanding this right, to register and not pay the $200 fee, the pistol must be in your trust before 01/13/2023. Then they said something like, you have to register in your name, and you want it in a trust, you then must file a Form 4 and pay the $200.

Any help on this?

IOW if the pistol is in your possession after 1.13 but not in your trust, then you have to register it under your name, not the trust. Then, after that process is complete you can initiate a transfer of NFA items from you to your trust by filing a form 4.

I could be wrong about the “have to” part. I’m just responding to your post. I’ll Need some clarification from the experts too.

I don’t think the 1/13 date is accurate. I believe that was penciled-in…and in reality should be the date it was published, which is today.

But getting it into the trust (on paper) prior to 1/13 isn’t really a big deal. 😎

You are correct. Per the FAQ https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regul...aqfinalrule2021r-08f-updated12523pdf/download it had to be in the trust prior to the date of publishing which was today 1/31.
