Atlanta Cop Shooting

.02
best possible outcome.... guy not had been DUI and passed out in drive thru ...

true. also should not have fought cops and taken taser and fired it.

that said, after deploying taser while retreating he did not pose an imminent deadly threat.

if any of us shot someone who didn’t have a ranged weapon that was running away in the back we would have a tough time claiming self defense...

It wasn't self defense. It was protecting the public at large by stopping a drunk that just attacked a police officer and was getting away with an officers weapon. Preventing the perp from using it on someone else. A regular person would not be in the situation that this officer was in. You would not have been called to handle the drunk in the first place.

maybe this has been said before, I did not read 5 pages (sorry).

Potential scenario from the officer point of view. The perp turned around and aimed the taser at the officer which if fired could’ve incapacitated him. The perp will now has the ability to grab the officer’s firearm and shoot him at point blank range.

fair enough. if you ACTUALLY believe that he was an imminent deadly threat to the general public then i know where you stand. you believe he deserved to die right there. You seem rigid in this belief. no point arguing with you.

I disagree and didn’t see an imminent deadly threat to the police or the public and i believe there were other non-lethal options the police could have taken. i can see how an adrenaline filled moment lead to this poor decision but wouldn’t defend it as appropriate.

If someone would attack 2 police officers and try to tase them, it's not much of a stretch to think that they might do the same thing to someone in the general public.

It would not surprise me that in the near future blacks as well as other minorities begin to police the police that enter their community. It will not be a good day when the community shows up armed to the teeth and all hell breaks loose. So far blacks burn buildings to show their rage, that can easily change to a 2A day for the oppressed.

They charged the Atlanta Cop with 11 charges 10 for aggravated assault and one for felony murder. The DA said in his press conference (reportedly I didn’t hear it personally so can’t verify) that he would seek the death penalty on him.

the 9 of the 10 charges are for folks in cars in the drive thru line. I think it was 3 ppl in a car hit by a round and he shot 3 times hence 9 charges.

I don’t see how he would get convicted by a jury to death, but if he gets off certainly the burning of Atlanta Due to rioting will make Sherman look like an amateur.

Perhaps it was posted in here earlier, but a video was posted a couple of months back, in CA I think, of an off-duty cop who had a road rage encounter in a gas station parking lot. Both men armed. Road rager presents his gun, but runs from the off duty cop who also drew down, and dropped the felon road rager 20 yards away and the cop walked.

Different laws in different states.

.

Not sure I agree with that. Could the officer reasonably assume that the perp would hit him with the taser and while said Officer is incapacitated, take his firearm and shoot him?

Keep in mind that while a taser is supposed to be less than lethal force, it doesn’t mean it won’t kill you. The purpose of the taser is to incapacitate with less chance of death than a firearm.

You also mentioned above that you took issue with someone saying the suspect deserved to die right there. I’m not sure that’s what they were actually saying. The goal is to shoot to stop. Not shoot to kill.

I’m not saying he deserved to die. But he definitely needed to be stopped and it could be reasonably assumed that he posed a lethal threat to one or both officers.

I hope the grand jury “no bills” the entire thing.

If the cop gets convicted they’d better be prepared to deploy robots in place of humans because the applicant pool for police office is gonna shrink a lot, again.
Or the quality of applicant will decrease significantly and they will be hiring people that maybe wouldn’t have passed a psychological test when things were good.
Back in the 80s Miami Dade police department quality standards were so low that the cops were just as bad as the criminals and corruption was rampant

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Atlanta Police Department on Friday night, June 12th, to investigate an officer involved shooting at the Wendy’s Restaurant on University Avenue. We are in the process of conducting this investigation. Although we have made significant progress in the case, we have not completed our work. Our goal in every officer involved shooting case we are requested to review, is to complete a thorough, impartial investigation before we submit the file to the respective District Attorney’s Office.

The GBI was not aware of today’s press conference before it was conducted. We were not consulted on the charges filed by the District Attorney. Despite today’s occurrence, the GBI will complete its mission of completing an impartial and thorough investigation of this incident and we will submit the file, once completed, to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.

I know 3 LEO’s very well all with over 25 years served ... they are counting days until they have the age/time of service to retire. 2 have decided to try a shift into the Civil or Court side of the Sheriff’s office and the other is looking for anything to get to only push papers at PD HQ. All 3 swear they can’t reprogram their training and 25 plus years on the job to be politically correct. It’s been ingrained in them to act and react a certain way for so long it’s autopilot ... the can’t teach and old dog new tricks things except it’s you can’t unbreak a dog from old tricks. One example is using certain types of “leverage” to elicit a desired reaction ... just a little rise in the positioning of hands cuffed behind the back will 99% of the time make a person in custody think about their shoulders rather than trying to sidekick a LEO’s knee ... but some say “it can dislocate a shoulder” and is frowned upon by quite a few of today’s leadership. Every time someone scream police brutality or such LEO’s seem to lose some tool deemed “excessive” ... hell if it keeps up they’ll only have a whistle and vocal commands (as long as they are not offensive to the criminal).

Not sure if anyone has seen this, seems that ATL officers are fed up and taking a stance.

Don’t know how true the above is but I do know over a dozen APD LEO’s resigned last week ... before the Brooks shooting ... because of the way the 2 LEO’s who tased the 2 people in the car were treated. I bet Department morale is nothing with the lack of backing and LEO’s being thrown under the bus before Brooks. Blue Flu might become as contagious as C-19 the way things are going.

Gee, maybe some of the other public sector employees and unions will wake up to what the Democrats now are and who they are in bed with. The Republicans aren’t perfect, ethical or even competent sometimes, but they aren’t Communists that hate this country. The bar is set very low and most of them can just sneak in.

You mean like these guys.20200617_204811.jpg Anyone remember them?

I read a post from a lawyer I know in Atlanta. He thinks if the DA who spoke today is trying the case, he will never get a conviction. His opinion.

I want to see the DA get a conviction on the 3 counts of assault he filed on the 2nd LEO for how he handled the attempt to cuff Brooks. The LEO’s and Brooks had no real problems until the cuffs came out and Brooks started the fight. What are LEO’s suppose to do when anyone doesn’t want to be cuffed and transported ... say please? Those 3 counts of assault filed against the LEO will piss off a bunch of other LEO’s just as the charges files against the 2 for last week’s tasing arrest of the 2 people in the vehicle stop. APD will see quite a few more resignations, retirements, etc ... and to what point before they have to put the administrative brass out there to cover calls?

Then he's as stupid as the DA.

**Nope sorry read that as will get a conviction.

Today Georgia Fulton County DA Paul Howard charges officer Garrett Rolfe with murder for shooting Rayshard Brooks after Brooks fired a Taser at him...

Just two weeks ago, the same DA in the Rayshard Brooks case charged officers with aggravated assault for pointing a taser at "protesters":
..."As many of you know under Georgia law, taser is considered a deadly weapon under Georgia law" said DA Howard.

Case Dismissed

I look at that picture and I don’t know what movie that’s from but it’s like I have a vague memory that I’ve seen it before. You’ll have to refresh my memory.

This DA IS under criminal investigation for money laundering and fraud. He also didn't win a majority in the primary and face a run off. So he throws in the death penalty because some voters want the cops executed regardless the law or facts.

Don’t forget the sexual harassment lawsuit against Howard also ...

All the ATL police scanners are online, but have been quiet for a while. Mostly EMS and fire. Very little Police interactions.

I doubt that they would want to report it if it was true, just think how crazy it will get there if/when the word gets out that it is true.

I’m sure the Mayor has relationships with all the local stations. They’d sit on any bad news for a little bit.

Time will tell. I’d not trust ANY news stations. Fox included.
I need more than just one new stations report, because it’s totally seems like propaganda they put out so the criminals wouldn’t realize there’s no police presence. But who knows. I reached out to my buddy who’s living in Atlanta. Trying to see if he’s noticed any less of a presence. The last shooting happen 3 miles from his place of work. If he tells me he hasn’t seen a cop in an hour then I believe they’ve walked. Haven’t heard back from him yet.

I'm in Florida with my cousin. He's SWAT and knows some of the snipers in APD. A LARGE portion of the dept has walked off the job. The city has requested help from outside agencies and been told to pound sand... ATL is going to burn long before this goes to court...
