Here's the part of the story that won't get a lot of media coverage:

"Aurora police said they had arrested [the shooter] Martin six times on charges that included traffic violations and domestic violence... His most recent arrest was two years ago, when Oswego police picked him up on charges of disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

Martin purchased the gun that was used in the shooting in 2014, police said. Ziman said Martin purchased the weapon after being issued a firearm owner's identification card, and after passing the initial background check.

Five days after taking possession of the weapon, a Smith & Wesson 40-caliber handgun, Martin tried to obtain a concealed carry permit.

But during the fingerprinting and background process it was discovered that he had a felony conviction for assault in Mississippi, police said. The date of conviction was in 1995. Police said the conviction would not necessarily have shown up on the background check for a gun owner's license.

Because of the conviction, Martin's concealed carry permit was rejected and his license to own a weapon was revoked by Illinois State Police, police said.

Ziman said as part of the investigation into the shooting, investigators would try to determine why Martin never surrendered his weapon to police as he should have."

So here's my list of where Government failed this time. And the anti's solution will be to further empower the same people who failed us as miserably as they did at Parkland, Southerland Springs, and so many other shootings.

Government Failure #1: A convicted felon is given a FOID card.
Government Failure #2: When Failure #1 is discovered, the police didn't come get the weapon from said felon.
Possible Government Failure #3: Sounds like Mississippi conviction may not have been entered into NICS.

The logical thing would be to have even more government checks. If three chances is not enough to get it right maybe we have to give them 10. Certainty they can’t be so incompetent that they couldn’t screw up that many times.

So he got his FOID in 2014 then tried to apply for a CHP but they found out he was a felon (convicted of stabbing a woman in MS in 1994) so IL revoked his FOID but he still maintained possession even though the authorities knew he was a felon? Wonder if the victims’ families will sue the State because they dropped the ball on by not making sure the shooter (a known felon to them) turn over his firearms? Man those tight gun control people in Chicago and IL sure know how to protect their citizens.

Every good law in the world won't stop evil. Hell the Bad laws just want to buy a pint and watch the blooming idiots try to troll for a good dicking. Then jump out and bum frunk the people to stupid to leave it be.

No clue but that a hell of a rant I'll never remember in the morning!!

The police sent the shooter a letter to surrender his weapon. Well, they finally got the weapon!

Chasing gang members through the crack houses and icy streets of Chicago, or knocking on a felon's door to retrieve him of his gun, is hard and dangerous. It's much safer to sit behind a desk and process forms that were filled out by the generally law abiding population. I'm not knocking on the police here, more the politicians and bureaucrats who created this incompetent and ineffective system.

Lol that was a post I made after taking my medication to sleep. Like after I had already fallen asleep. So sorry But you got the drift of laws not really working except on people too stupid to understand them.

I guess the gunman did not notice the gun free zone sign on the front door.

Well you know what the antis will say. "There is only one solution to the problem, ban and confiscate all guns." Then this guy would have used a knife, a baseball bat, an automobile, a bomb, a brick, a pipe wrench...

My next to last employer took to having a 300# security guard on hand when firing someone. My last employer made HR do the dirty work. One time it was a very pregnant woman from Iowa. They flew here in to Raleigh to fire 1 guy.

Just to echo what a lot of you others are saying. Unfortunately, the anit gunners will use these data points as justification for MORE infingment (notice I didnt say laws). No matter what laws are in place there are going to be people that slip through.

"
"The big takeaway is the Illinois State Police need to be resourced up significantly to do all the jobs the legislature has given them to do," said Mark Jones, senior policy adviser for the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence.
The circumstances in Martin's case before the shooting are not unique. In 2018 alone, Illinois State Police says it issued 10,818 revocations of FOID cards, but only 3,469 of those FOID cards were returned.
Moreover, from 2014 to 2019, only 110 arrests were made for failure to return a FOID card. "

Translation: "We must once again reward the ones who failed us by giving them bigger piles of our money."

As a matter of fact he passed 28 theaters that were not posted to get to this one.
Yes that is correct, this is the most recent shooting at a manufacturing facility where the gunman was being terminated,
he opened fire on the people in the room and also on the floor of the facility.
