Backpacks - any recomendations for basic travel type pack?

'basic travel type pack'

FWIW I bought my son an Ogio backpack and put a ProTech III rifle rated plate in it and it lasted all thru high school. It's called a 'laptop' compartment.
+1 for Ogio. I carried one of their packs traveling six days a week for years on airlines and I still have it with me in the truck to this day

I like this one by Osprey. It’s called the Mantra and comes in two sizes. The comfort and expansion is first rate. It also has a large span to adjust for each persons body type to help with weight distribution and comfort. Plus it will qualify as a carry on bag.

Plus Osprey has a great lifetime warranty. I have a couple Ospreys, a GoRuck Rucker 25 and the CamelBak Motherlode. The Ospreys and CamelBak have held up to a ton of use/abuse. The GoRuck is too new for me to give an opinion but it construction and materials give me no pause.

I'd double check pouch size for ballistic plate but think this would look good on you

Steve, you so funny. You need upgrade your pack game with something sweet. Little did we know there were so many good options-besides Hello Kitty bags of course.

Definitely a good idea to use a separate bag for travel. Never use a bag that though user for the range for air travel.
For road travel, less risky unless one is traveling behind enemy lines

never thought of it till now but range bag might set off sensor or dog sniffing for explosives, lol, not to mention the odd bullet that gets thrown in and lost in the creases.
