Finally hung my built fj60 front on to my newest project, a 94 Toyota extra cab with a 3.4 from a T100. Front axle working out is a huge relief. Rest of the build should be no sweat.

What's your backyard fab project?

@Gray can you get some closeups of your bumpstop setup? I need to extend mine in order to keep my 33's out of my fenders. That and extended brake lines will be my next 4runner projects.

Right now it's trying to get grass to grow.

.

Ha! Me too. I just had my septic field expanded for the renovation on my house. I have 8 bails of straw and 25lbs of seed that need to get spread. Catch is I've got a day's worth of picking up rocks and raking first.

I'll snap a few pic later.

What year 4Runner? Is it IFS or a solid axle?

With the upgraded axle, I still have some work to do but this frame has this welded to it

And this bump stop was welded to the spring plate. I had to change mine because the perches on my axle are a little wider.

This is a simple and effective method however results may vary.

'85 Model, I am running an IFS rear with elocker. I am about to swap my trutrac from old rear axle into the front.
Asking about the bumpstops because the stock ones aren't sufficient for the 33's.

Keeping with the thread, I fabbed the sliders and rear bumper myself.
Ignore my trail carnage, the guy I was with decided I needed a new bumper before I was ready.

Just extend the mounting point for the bump stop. Either bolt something to the existing bolt pattern or weld.

My go to is trim the fenders and keep it low but you have a very clean 85.

Is it the front or rear that's the issue? If it's rear I'd get an addaleaf because those rear springs get tired over time and get flat.

Your front springs are probably flat or slightly inverted. If that's the case the right fix it to get a new set of leaf springs all the way around. A 3" will settle to about 2 and I bet that would work well.

Sounds like you wheel it if you are doing lockers. Have you considered putting the rears up front and getting the Chevy 63s or the Ford (52"?) springs for the rear? I know the 63s require welding not sure about the Ford. That would be budget flex and ride solution.

Thanks! It has been a long rebuild but an awesome learning experience.

Both front and rear rub when stuffed. I think its a 3" aftermarket springs on it that sit pretty level. I may go for some extended rear shackles but I have to get the bump stops fabbed up first.

1" of shackle height will provide about 1/2" of lift and most likely will not fix the clearance issue if at all. Too tall of a shackle and it will get squirrelly on the road.

I'd recommend adding a mid length leaf spring from spares to the front and an add a leaf in the rear. You should have enough u bolt length to accommodate one more leaf. Look at limiting suspension compression after that if needed.

I have thought of this. And I have an extra set of stock rear leafs.

I actually need to replace the u bolts on the rear now. The 85 axle tube was a smaller diameter than the 87, that with the lift springs completely maxed out the u bolt length. Also if I go much higher I will have to contend with new shocks. I'm currently enjoying the ride of the OME shocks on the road.

Dual transfer cases are in, welded fj80 full float rear is in and I will pick up my custom rear driveshaft tomorrow. Need to build a battery box and do a bolt check and it will be time to ride through to woods and see what comes apart lol.

Just got the grille on. Siked to see it look more like a truck and less like a project.

Looks good man. A few years back I was wheeling a turbo'd 3rz tacoma with an fj60 front fj80 rear and 2.28/4.70 duals.

Pics? You on NC4x4?

I wish I had bit the bullet and installed 4.7 when I had it apart. I'm 2.28/2.28 with 23 spline inputs. I think the 3.4 should do well for my needs especially if I run 37s and don't find a deal on 40s

I don't get on there anymore. Only pic I could find on my phone

Pretty bad ass to be on leaf springs! What springs were out back? I've got chebbys

I know where I can get a late 90's 4 runner in decent shape for a steal. But now that I live in a neighborhood I wouldn't have anywhere to put it without pissing of the wife.

As far as gears go I think you're going to spend all your time on the trails in double low. I was always in 4.70 or double low. The only time I used 2.28:1 was on connector trails when I didn't want to run 4th and 5th gear in 4.70:1.

The only time I hammered on it in 2.28:1 was at the flats and I broke the rear input. Front case in low and rear case in high puts too much stress on the shaft. But I was 21 spline throughout. Went to 23 in the rear case after that.

In boarded Chevy 63's. It worked pretty well

63s too but not in boarded since this will be a dual purpose rig. I like the cage you had.

Hmm. I thought that rear case was the first to get into low. I've seen guys that have the 4.7 set in the range box and a stock rear case. Maybe that's why.

Too much BS to read through everything on Pirate and the Marlin forums are overly techy with people fighting over which bearing is better.

Nothing yet. I just inherited a 72 LTD with a 429. It has very little rust some I can spot weld on the trunk lid and the fender will need to be replaced or fixed. I don't have the funds for it right now. I'll have it towed to my house next weekend probably.
