Bacon slaying...

Very nice! Where'd ya take that porker, if you don't mind my askin'? I'd love to start finding some free-range BBQ close to my AO.
10mm perhaps?

Thanks! This one was taken down on the Rocky River near Ansonville. I hunt with some guys that use catch dogs near Pageland SC. I'm shooting the G35 although a 10mm G40 is on my list for this task soon.

Do you run into issues getting wild hog processed? I was having a discussion with someone once about the idea of getting a piglet and raising it on food waste as I understand that is a great way to turn excess and scraps into meat and he said that you will want to get it registered because a lot of places won't process them unless you can prove they're registered.

The guys I hog hunt with have a local processor down there in SC that handles the hogs. We have raised a few each year for the freezer and never had them registered or anything. Got them processed in Concord at Cruse Meat Processing with no issues.

Good info. Thanks.

Hey...........You guys need to hook up with Rogue_One really quickly. He has the connections and hook up to get you into some real hog-infested flat lands in the southeastern NC and northeastern SC areas.

And I know a certain bovine producer named Brangus that enjoys the sausage and other fine delicacies from the hog-harvesting efforts by you guys. Cattle producers who are seeing their fences completely destroyed by these destructible rooters from the swine world will thank you.

So load up and go git 'em. The best they will ever look is when they're served off a paper plate to fellow firearm enthusiasts.

Would you mind letting me know who the local processor in SC is? I live about 30 minutes from Pageland, but I hunt in Anson County.

I know him and work with his Dad. I've dropped deer off at his place. He told me he will do hogs, but I wasn't sure he was legit. There's a difference between saying you will do one and being on the up and up.

I'll call him and make sure it's not a problem. I guess I could ask his Dad. I'm sure I will see him when I get back from lunch.

Well that's cool. Yeah my buddy says they use him all the time and he does a great job on the hogs

Thanks for letting me know. I didn't get a chance to speak to his Dad or call him, but it's on my list of things to do. The guy that processes our hogs now doesn't do a very good job, at all.

I would love to hunt hogs, but lack of access & knowledge are proving to be the big holdup. Would love to put some wildschwein in the freezer with one of my .41 Rugers or my .45-70 Guide Gun.

I will go on a hog hunt this year. Even if I have to pay for it.

Anyone else here do some hog hunting?

My first kill with the pistol. 300lb sow. One in the ear finally took her down.

Awesome

There is a thrill to killing the big one, but if you want to enjoying eating them, kill the younger smaller sows. ;)

Oh the little ones get cleaned out too, no worries. We had quite a few bite size ones taken that day and not in the picture.
