Some friends of mine are renovating the kitchen of their house down in Washington. The house dates to the early 1800's. When they were tearing out the ceiling this morning, this fell out:

The lock kinda looks like a Brown Bess, and they said it was a Tower pistol, so the lock may be Tower marked or they may just be Googling stuff they don't understand.

Either way, does anybody have any expertise or insight on what this pistol might be? This is the only picture I have thus far, so I have no detail. If I get more photos, I will post.

Not sure what it is, but I know that's considered an assault pistol in NJ/MD/NY/CA/CT/IL and everywhere else where morons are in power.

Beware of New Jersey. Don’t come here. Don’t live here,” Mr. Van Gilder said. “Here I am, a retired teacher coming out of his house in handcuffs, who had a flintlock pistol and now I’m charged as a felon. It’s unbelievable. It’s outrageous. It’s an insult to decent people.”

New Jersey’s gun laws explicitly include antique firearms, even though federal laws exempt them."

I'm with Chad.....Have no knowledge to offer but this is awesome. Do they know any history on the house that may steer them in a direction to find out where it possibly come from?

That is just so awesome. I never found anything even close to that in my house.

The proof marks will give you some idea. List of of both barrel and action marks can be found on the internet. I would suggest checking the British marks first based on your assumption regarding the similarity to a Brown Bess action.

Sounds like a trip to Williamsburg, Va is in order.

It resembles a British sea service pistol. But I don't have any more details or photos. Hopefully, I can get some more photos or get to examine it in person later this week.

It looks like this is gonna turn out to be a late 60's or early 70's Japanese replica like this:

That's a bummer, I was hoping for another history lesson from the group here.

Its amazing what a little CLP will do!

a little Kroil, some brass wool, and some elbow grease will work wonders ;)

Oh wait, it's Japanese? Then just soak it in some vinegar overnight, and hang it on the wall :D

Id totally EDC this bad boy...if I ever needed to use it I could cry out "STAND AND DELIVER THY RUFFIANS!"

I'm not an open carry guy but I'd sport that bad boy in a Mexican cross draw.

Can I walk in the post office with that?
Batfe-abc says not a firearm....

If it's just a jap repop...you should inlet the stock for a 33rd grock mag.

why would ANYONE in their right mind willingly consent to a search of any kind???

officer: "Do you mind if we search your vehicle?"

me: "Yes, in fact, I do mind. May I see your search warrant?"

It'll be kind of hard to get that last bit out with all the gravel between your teeth.

Even if it’s a Japanese copy, it’s still cool.

And considered vintage now, geezers.

I might not get it in that day, but at some point in the future, if I was roughed up for refusing to consent to a search, the errant officer would be having to untangle his testicles from his tonsils... punt rooskie on three....
