Hey folks, took my new 442 to the range today. Fired 50 shots total, a good bit of my shots were high and right but didn’t think much of it. Got back and while cleaning, I noticed the barrel crown looks a bit... off?

If you’re standing behind the gun, the right side of the crown has 2 areas that recesses lower into the barrel than the rest of the barrel. I tried my best to show it in the pictures. When looking in the barrel, it looks like there’s some rough edges on the areas that are recessed as well.

The last pic shows the show the side of the crown that looks “normal”. Not sure what is normal hence why I put it in quotations. It may be no issue at all but just wanted input from those who know more than myself before I put a call in to S&W. If anyone needs a pic from another angle, just let me know. Thank you.

Shots were high and right? Now shoot a Glock and you'll hit bullseyes every time. 😁
😄😁

First 10-15 rounds were high and right but everything was pretty much point of aim after that. Was holding the sights a bit higher than I should but overall fairly happy with my accuracy.

After thinking about it again, Billy’s right. It’s just me overthinking. I wasn’t attributing the high-right to the gun at all, I learned my lesson blaming Glock’s (I’m sure you all remember that lol). Just the slight recess was my only concern but now I see that it’s normal

Looking at the pictures it looks like the crown is fine and that you are just seeing the difference between lands and grooves. The chamfer will look deeper on the grooves.
Great, thank you for the reply! Alleviated some worries.

I apologize for my ignorance on topics like these. Googling any issue I have comes up with 10,000 different replies and I don’t know which one to believe, hence why it seems like I ask stupid questions on here a lot

A trick @baileyboat taught me: Clean up the crown real good, get all the carbon off it. Shoot a few rounds. Now look at the pattern the fresh carbon makes. It'll be greater or lesser depending on whether it's on a land or a groove. But if the pattern is different at this groove/land than at the other ones, you might have a problem.

Sounds like a solid way to troubleshoot any potential problems, thank you. I’ll make sure to give this a go the next range trip

Well waddya know, a little practice and I was hitting 20yd shots (more like 18-19 but let’s call it 20 😉) with the 442 on one of these Shoot N’ C targets yesterday. The gun is more accurate than I’ll ever be but I’m happy that a lot of dry fire and a couple hundred rounds down range paid offDD4DAFAE-32DC-486F-85FB-9B73FA720C15.jpeg

Definitely something very wrong with that gun.

I don’t see a single hit on that target. 😂
