Any recommendations in the general Raleigh area for someone to put a barrel and parts into an AR receiver? I don't feel like investing in the tools to do a one-off job.

Thanks!

Thanks guys, at this point all I have is the barrel, the hand guards, and .22 insert! My plan is to make a dedicated .22 rimfire upper using my Ciener M261 type kit and the BCA barrel I just received yesterday. I'm planning on getting an Anderson slick side upper. I considered doing the assembly myself except that the barrel has no front sight base and will need to have one drilled and installed and I also didn't want to buy the barrel wrench. I think getting the front sight base properly aligned and drilled is the biggest challenge to my skill level.

Yes that’s a bit more than putting together the lego pieces.

Do you desire a pinned on fsb for your build? There are many other options that don’t require drilling for pins. A clamp on or set screw gas block will do the job. Even of holding the Handguard mount in place if you want clamshell style and not free floating.

I’m not 1000% sure as I’ve never looked into it but I thought all .22lr “AR” rifles were blowback. So the gas port/block/tube system is immaterial to the function of the rifle?

Just curious. As I’m not understanding the need but would understand the want

I have a reaction rod, but I don't believe a 22 barrel has the splines.

Yes you are correct, since it is a blowback, the gas system is immaterial. The barrel is a standard 5.56mm centerfire barrel which I would use a .22 lr sub-caliber device in place of the bolt carrier group. I'm trying to do this inexpensively only because I have both the free barrel and the sub-caliber device on hand. I don't really 'need' it because I can use the sub-caliber device in my AR15 lightweight carbine as a .22 plinker. I guess I'm just trying to find a use for the free barrel BCA was kind enough to give me.

I may just put the barrel on the shelf for a possible requirement in the future.

Thanks for everyone's advice.

Why are you doing s FSB? Just because you want a basic handguard? If you don't need a gas system, why not just do a basic free float like an ALG or an Aero? Probably can find one for under $75 shipped.

Only because I want the issue type front sight base and I already have the Carbine handguards.

If that was my project I'd talk with Tom Beliveau in Wendell:

There is another good smith in north Raleigh, but you may not live long enough to get your gun back from him. No disrespect intended, it's just the way it is.

Thanks Rick, I may give Tom a call.
