so I grabbed one of the barrels from BCA on Veterans Day last year that they were giving away. My goal was to build a super cheap rifle and run the hell out of it to see how it does. I had a few parts laying around from previous builds, but I think the total that I have in this rifle right now is $360. I rattle canned it green the other day and I thing it turned out pretty decent. I’ll keep the thread updated as I run it and see if any issues some up. My plan was to kind of real world torture test it, but my access to ranges has drastically decreased here recently after the move.

I’m definitely interested in seeing how the barrel holds up for you, so far my BCA .458 Socom barrel has been extremely accurate out to 100 yards, the chamber and BCG have been another story, but I won’t muddy up your thread with all that.

I forgot that I had one of these floating around. I think s left hand build is gonna be perfect once I find out where the barrel is at

Not sure when I’ll get a chance to run some rounds through it, might try and go this week if I can find a decent range.

What was the issue with the chamber, chewing up your brass?

I’m still working out a chambering issue where the rounds will not go into battery 100% of the time.

The barrel extension has one large feed ramp and the lugs on both sides of the feed ramp gouge the brass pretty bad.

The extractor isn’t an actual .458/.450 part, they pretty much just attempted the grind the profile into an extractor from another part, I have since bought. Tromix extractor that is for the caliber but now when I just have the extractor spring installed without the “doughnut” it will fail to extract but if I install the doughnut the extractor pin is a mofo to get installed and it’s chews the lip of the brass up BAD.

This may sound nuts but I knew full well I was going to have issues based on things I read prior to buying the upper, but I got such a smoking deal on it I bought it anyways and I’m actually enjoying tinkering with it, it’s getting a little better each time I take it out and it is very accurate so I’m having a good time with it.

Ran 200 rounds through it today and it worked flawlessly. I didn’t get to really test out the accuracy as I was shooting at an indoor range. After I made a couple adjustments to my sights. (Daniel Defense fixed irons) I was able to easily keep all the shots in
a 5in circle at 25 yards shooting offhand, standing at a fairly quick rate, shooting m193 55gr and m556nt1 50gr frangible.

I was mainly wanting to test the gun for function so I wanted to get a lot of rounds through it quickly to see if any problems would come up. I shot it till the hanguards were getting a little too warm for me to hold on to then shot some handgun while it cooled down then fired a few more mags through it at a pretty quick pace. Overall, for a very cheap rifle, I am pretty happy with it. I’ll try and get to longer range where I can shoot some groups with it, but it be comfortable saying that it’s easily a minute-of-man gun.

Not too bad for a rifle I only have 360 bucks invested in.

Dammit Derek, it looks like a nice ar. I'm waiting to see the surprise though. :)

what is the lens pen for in the second to last pic? I don't see an optic :D
haha, I was using it to dust them off before I cleaned them with some alcohol beige painting. I’ll probably leave this one just irons for now.
