I have an 8.5" pistol upper, don't recall the make, I've had it for a while. I mated the barrel with a Dolos quick removal system and the lower with a Law tactical folder. As I was putting an SB stock on the other day I started having trouble pulling the charging handle and locking the bolt to the rear. I could feel something binding and started looking for where. I finally found the wear in the CH pictured, which was causing the CH to ride up on top of the BCG as it was being pulled back. This is where the binding occurs, the CH is creating a wedge as it goes rearward. I am jumping to conclusions and thinking it is over gassed and have ordered and an adjustable gas block. Has anyone seen this kind of wear on a CH and is there anywhere else I should be looking? I have taken some measurements using an new bolt as a comparison and haven't seen anything that would point to out of spec BCG.

Is it possible that the LAW is slightly out of spec and causing carrier tilt? Is there excess wear on the top inside of the buffer tube?

I’m struggling to see how an overgassed situation would cause this. The charging handle doesn’t move while firing, so the only time it’s contacting the carrier with any force is when you charge the weapon, unless it’s hitting hard when the BCG goes home?

Anything is possible, that is why I included that stuff. I am going to take it out tomorrow with a different BCG and CH and look at the shell pattern and see what the brass looks like after firing.

Its the Dolos quick removal system. That cut is rotational on the charging handle.

Btw, when you modify a system like you have thats so far away from its designed intended use, what did you expect?

It appears that the bolt has been released with out the barrel in position. According Pantheon Arms states “Do not allow your bolt carrier group to slam home when your rifle is not fully assembled. Your charging handle will be damaged.” Have you hit the bolt release or pull back on the charging handle and the bolt go forward without the barrel attached?

SHIT! I need to read instructions more. I don’t do it all the time but I have. Thanks Joe!

I took out a rifle and studied it trying to figure out how this damage happened and came up empty. I knew there was an easy answer, and there it is! Now I'd also be taking a really close look at my upper to make sure that the BCG didn't hammer anything else.
