best 12 guage turkey load

In need of some direction on buying the best turkey load for a Remington 870 12 gauge.

You have to pattern a few different loads to determine if your gun likes them. Lead is fine about 40 yds and cheapest shell. TSS is 50% denser than lead and will extend range and be at least $10-$12 a shell. Is your gun fixed choke or screw ins?

well that will help. now you need to determine how much you want to spend on shells? Longboard XR is good lead shell. Apex Ammo is excellent turkey ammo. Try these.

Good rule of thumb for pattern is min 100 pellets in 10” circle at 40

Win XX is decent Prolly $15-20 per box. Main thing with lead is to pattern it to see if has too many holes in the pattern.

I run either winchester xx or longbeard xr. 5 shot in both and I have a kicks gobblin thunder choke. I get good patterns out to 50 yards in my 870.

Buy a few assorted boxes and see how they pattern. My current turkey gun, an 870 with a Carlson’s turkey choke, patterns well with Winchester Super X 3” #4 shot. My previous turkey gun was a Mossberg 930 would only pattern well with the more expensive longbeard XR ammo. I don’t remember the choke I had for it, was likely a Carlson’s as well. It takes some trial and error to find the best load, hopefully you can find a cost effective round that patterns well if that is your goal.
