What's yall's experiences been with budget friendly Bipods? I've seen a lot on Amazon with iffy reviews but I'm looking for the best bang for my buck that won't collapse after a couple shots. My price range is about $40-60 and it'll be for targets and varmints on a 20" barrel 5.56 AR. This will be my first Bipod, are they any features that are a must-have?
Thanks!

I got this one a couple years ago for around $16 and it has worked fine for what I needed.

I've got same one on my AR has been for a few years with no problems. I've got the one that came with pic mount for my AR. I've also put one on my Remington 597 22lr its only been 6 months with it but no problems and I shoot my Remington alot.

Are you happy with 2-3" groups or will you get irritated if you can't get better than 1"? Cheap bipods tend to have a lot of bounce.

The $20 Amazon deals are great for 'good enough', but the $100 Harris/Magpul are better while still being reasonably priced.

While higher price usually does mean better quality. And you can't go wrong with pretty much everything magpul makes. I personally haven't had no grouping issues using the cvlife cheaper bi pod. 1 inch groups or less aren't no problem. 50 yard Remington 597 22lr target using cheap bi pod and federal bulk box ammo.20231019_100236.jpg5.56 AR with cheap cvlife bi pod while I was sighting in new scope at 100 yards with some aac 55 grain 20231019_100205.jpgis there better options then cheap yes sir more then likely will cheap work and work well yes sir.

I use mine on my 6.8 AR that I hunt with. In the mountains, I hunt from my camper and sit the rifle on the table and shoot out the window. Have not had any issues with it and able to hold it steady on all the deer that I have killed with it. Not sure how they bounce, and it has been good enough to drop every deer that I have used it on. I don't think spending more money on a big name bipod would have made the deer any "deader".

Try the $20 bipod and if it doesn't do what you need it to, sell it and go for the more expensive name brands. Worse case you are out $20.

I hear. ya. The price for Harris etc is tough. I did get a Harris for my Ruger American, but that was due to the $100 Rugerbucks rebate going on- and shout out to Ruger for turning my submission into an actual usable reward in 4 days!

#1 choice - Harris ( Made in USA 🇺🇸 )
#2 choice - Magpul

Cheap stuff is fine for plinking and general fun use.
When it comes to duty use gear:
Cheap ain't good, Good ain't cheap.

The type of shooting one does usually dictates your choice of gear.
Bench Rest/Sniping/Hunting type shooting is a different engagement than rapid, multiple shot, multiple target engagement.

Running one of Tims R&G events will dang sure test your kit. Shooting long range assault courses of fire in the desert with DHS will dang sure test your kit too.
I've never had a Harris bipod let me down in the field.

"Form follows Function"....
Select something that is in your budget and fits your type of shooting.

I'm with you 100% on most things. I spend the money where needed, and save where it's not. I'm the guy that gets side-eyed for running a $1,700 optic on a $400 upper!

Price for a Harris is tough? Perhaps we should do a level set.

Harris ends up being an economical buy in a good bipod. Magpul's tend to be a bit flexy. Caldwell's seem to be decent Harris knock-off 's. I admittedly have been playing with modifying an Atlas knock-off to see if I can make it do what I need.

Let us know, I have one I got years ago.
It doesn't hold the twisted locks very well, the pin locks work great.

The difference in a Harris and a cheaper alternative is obviously quality

They may appear the same but I bought an el cheapo Caldwell bipod for a .22 and the legs were creaky, the springs would hum really badly with vibration shooting SuperSonics, legs weren’t quiiiiite even in length…. I mean it functioned but it was clear it wasn’t on the same level.

If you're not shooting off of a bench 100% of the time, I would get one with tilt capability. Otherwise, you won't get your scope level.
Awesome, this was exactly the kind of feature I didn't know I needed.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations. I think I'm gonna go with a Caldwell for now and if I'm dissatisfied I'll make the leap to a Harris.

The utg recon flex is pretty decent for a cheapo.

It is a two piece that mounts on each side of an m-lok forend. To me the biggest downside is that it's not really a quick detach deal. You pretty much out it on and leave it on.

If you plan to keep the bipod attached all the time it's a good budget choice. Fairly solid. Lots of adjustment. Cheap.

This is the one I have. I believe they have a flex II out now. I haven't tried that one.
