What do you all think is the best hollow point ammunition to use in the P365? I can't seem to find Sig's specially designed "365 V-crown" in stock anywhere, and I don't know what would be the next best option.

Both Federal HST 124gr and Sig Elite V-Crown 124gr seem to feed and fire just fine, but the problem I'm having is finding reviews/tests that measure hollow point expansion from the shorter-barreled P365, rather than a 4-inch compact pistol barrel. HST and V-Crown perform fine in most of the tests out there, but I am concerned those results won't translate to the shorter barreled gun.

Some people say you want a heavier bullet for more "powder burn time" in the barrel, while others say you want a lighter round that doesn't need to gain as much energy to gain velocity, and therefore expansion.

I don't know much about any of this, but the information I've found online has only muddied the waters for me. Thoughts?

We can sit around here and argue about what bullet will do better in this instance, but I firmly believe it doesn’t really matter. Whatever functions 100% out of YOUR gun is what you should carry. 115, 124, 147, hst, Corbon, Hornady, Barnes……it won’t matter if you have to shoot someone.

I hear ya. Obviously, reliability of the ammo in the firearm is 100 times as important as everything else, but I figure I may as well buy the ammunition with the best bullet expansion for my gun if they all feed/fire well and are similarly priced.

Tests smests … get 2 or 3 different offerings from reputable manufacturers (Winchester, Federal, Speer, etc) and try them. First and foremost make sure they are 100% functional (cycling and firing) then move on to make sure they are SD accurate. After that you do your job and about any of the ones above will do just fine ... just remember ammo does not go bad when stored properly so when you see what you and your firearm likes at a decent price it don’t hurt to buy a box or two incase the Ammodemic of 2020 repeats.

Now for me and my compact 9mm’s I tend to stay with 124gr Speer Gold Dots or Federal HST’s. I did get a great deal on some 115gr Gold Dots a couple years back and they function just as well as the 124gr’s. I don‘t like to fire my heavy 147gr’s in compacts because I want those for my full sized suppressed handguns (typically they’re subsonic) … but if push came to shove they too have proven reliable so I’d have no problem loading them up either.

The only question there is, what is a decent price to look out for? With this massive inflation, I don't even know how much of current pricing is from demand owing to the social instability and how much is just the permanent result of economic "progress" :)

I didn't have enough of the expensive stuff (Federal JHP) to load both of may magazines for the 365 so now I have them loaded alternately with HP's and FMJ RN. First round in the chamber is a HP followed by a FMJ. Now that winter is approaching and people are adding thicker layers of clothing I figure at least FMJ should penetrate one or two layers of skin. ;)

Shoot whatever you can get your hands on and put the rounds where they need to go and it won’t matter if your carrying a 115, 124 or 147.

147Gr of your choice. In shorter barrels the longer dwell time of the 147gr bullet makes better use of the powder. +P is not necessary IMHO.

This guy does the most comprehensive and scientific ammo testing I have seen. He tested 30-40 9mm loads in a 3 inch barrel gun and his choice was anything HST or Winchester defend. Warning, there are ALOT of videos and it is a massive internet rabbit hole

That is an awesome resource! Hadn't heard of him before.

This is about as good as it is going to get right now. I good times this would be $20-25 a box.

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm rich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ball is all... it's cheap, it cycles and I can make more with stuff tha's on hand. No need to buy expensive boolits. I feed me 365 the same way I feed me 1911s & BHPs.

If'n ya want a pistol that will feed absolutely any ammo, get a P7.

By grace some of us have enough balls, we don't need to put extras in our pocket.
That’s where my edc gun is kept. Gun in right pocket, spare mag in left pocket

You need more coffee & up your jackassery this morning.
Eh. Blame daylight savings time. I’m gonna blame it on everything this week. Being late for work, hiding most of the day when I am at work, pissing people off, not getting vaccinated

And get help showin' ya what pocket to carry it in......................

I’m trying some light and fast 95gr solids in the p365. Max case capacity and slightly compressed load of VV 3N37.

Bought some ammo loaded with 65gr solids.

Haven’t had time to work on this, just bought the components and built a few rounds. Probably a Christmas time project.

The silver lining, if there can be one, to higher ammo prices is that the price difference between fmj & jhps has narrowed. JHP hasn’t increased as much as fmj did esp at the height of the plandemic.
