For some ungodly reason I have decided I need a 10mm.

I will use it for:
- Whitetail, Hogs, Armadillos, and anything else that wanders near enough to my stand whilst hunting
- Sidearm while fishing and generally walking around the woods
- Holding down a shelf in my safe

Tell me which one to get and why. GO.

Hope this thread takes off. I'm very interested in what folks have to say as well.

So many options.

Glock 40 MOS. You can do an optic. It’s reliable.

Coonan 10 mm 1911. Amazing gun.

Colt Delta Elite. Classic.

Ruger Super Redhawk 10mm. Heavy and light recoil.

There is very few times I will ever speak these words, but a G20 or G29 (personal favorite). That is unless you can find a S&W 610 or 1006. Of course then there's the P220 that sig had to go and taunt me with... yes, I have a 10mm problem :(

Damn ...
  • Glock 20 (4.6” barrel) 0r long slide 40 (6” barrel)
  • S&W 1066 SA/DA (5” barrels on both)
  • 1911 platform ... Colt Delta, Springfield TRP, Dan Wesson Bruin just to start along with Rock Island and others (5 or 6” depending on what you can find)
  • Sig P220 (5” barrel)
  • Ruger GP100 or Super Redhawk revolver in 4-6.5” barrels
and quite a few others.

For hunting and fishing the rough and tough Glock 40 or Super Redhawk 6.5” are two best dollar values to me. Now as my pure favorite I’m a 1911 guy and there Springfield’s TRP in 6” with either the Amory Kote or T-Finish call me real hard. Factor in price and Glock 40 jumps up there ... if you’re a revolver guy then GP100 or Super Redhawk 6.5” jumps up ... pure shooter I’m back to the 1911 and the Springfield TRP 6”. Your tastes, budget and feelings on upkeep factor in ...

I’m in the same boat right now. I really want another 10mm since I’ll be moving back east in a few months and plan to spend a lot of time in the appalachians. I used to have a gen 3 Glock 20 and I really regret selling that thing. My next pistol will definitely be a Glock, but I can’t decide between the 29, 20 or the 40. I really wish Glock would make a Gen 5 Glock 20 mos, I would be all over that in a heartbeat.

I wound up going with this one. 16 rounds of 10mm goodness.

Same caliber? Overall I'd say that is an oddball. But shit happens.
The finish wasn't right for a $1700 gun, and then the misbehavior. An overall underwhelming experience. I realize they have a following. I'm just not numbered among them.

So I picked up a Glock 20 because I'm not going to attempt a long distance kill with it while hunting. I still wanted the increased capacity for black bear, because less isn't more in that case. Lastly, if I want to carry it out in town, it's not too big.

The GunfightersINC Kenai Chest Holster is a must.

Agreed. For that money it should be perfect. I've had 3 Wessons that were perfect. Guess I got lucky. Or you were unlucky. Was the Springer a 9mm or a 45?

45, but if they configured one in 9mm that I liked I'd be all over one. The only other person I know running a Wesson in 9mm at matches is selling theirs too, due to the same misbehavior.

If I was going to shoot a 1911 in Comp it would be a 45 or 38 Super. No sense in a 9mm IMO. So the problems don't shock me at all.

Where the Springfield XDm fans at?!?!

Seriously though, I have yet to shoot a striker fired pistol as accurately as my old XDm in .40. Their new 10mm could be nice.

The 5.25” XD(m) is what I have my eye on.

I picked up a RIA a while back, and love it. The 10mm quickly jumped into contention for a favorite round of mine. I need to put a few hundred more rounds through this before I’d consider carrying it, but man it’s fun. It was a really cost effective and easy intro to the caliber.

Weren't you running that in 9mm in comps? Nothing like a familiar platform.

Yup. I actually had another thread a while back on it. Was hoping to see - and have - the other options.

This is a very close 2nd on my list right now, seems like a great value. I’d rather go that route or striker fired as I just won’t get the use out of a $1,500 pistol.

I researched the heck out of RIA’s in 9mm last year and couldn't find a bad review. Anywhere.

I love my Delta Elite. Now if someone came out with an officer size 10mm with a double stack, I'd be a little poorer.

I had one for a minute. Great gun, it was one of our member’s guns before I had it. But, I didn’t shoot it any better than my XD(m), so I moved on.

I LOVE my 3rd Gen S&W 10mm's

that said...I have a G20 and G29 and I think that the Glock 20 is the most practical and is a good relatively soft shooter. I don't have very big hands and it is easy for me to reach the trigger.

15+1 rounds of 10mm in the G20 should be enough...especially now that I am combining it with a 10mm TNW aero survival rifle...

If the XD(m) was milled for an RDS, I'd already have it. That's the only thing holding me back right now.
