Best Option in 10mm Handgun...

I used to own a P220 Hunter, and I'd have kept it if I could have, but at the time, other things took priority.

They're very accurate and the additional weight sucks up some of the 10mm recoil, but the G20 does have the ability to fill more than one role, and I don't get a torn up about beating the shit out of it while I'm out in the field.

My LGS doesn't carry a ton of 10mm, and I admit I haven't gotten to fire any myself. I want to. My current thoughts are between the Dan Wesson 1911 in 10mm, and a Glock 40 (whose name amuses me to no end given 10mm versus 40s&w). Granted the former is insanely expensive to me for a caliber I've never shot before. Handling it was about as nice as I expected a $1700 handgun to be, though.

Just because it hasn't been mentioned yet. Witness Hunter 10mm.

You know with a big honking all steel double stack frame like this I think I'd be tempted to go 45ACP and set it up for 45 Super. About the same power as full house 10 mm, but then it would kill souls.

Glock 20 is the obvious choice. Reasonable size, weight, price. Great capacity, aftermarket support, and reliability...

I loved my S&W 1006. One of the few guns I regret selling, but it weighed a ton and was a single stack. The prices of the gen3 S&Ws is not worth it anymore to me... And forget about the mags for them...

I am a HUGE fan of 3rd Gen S&W's.....except that I no longer own a single one of them. for just this reason, magazines, service parts and weight. The only models I'd consider picking up again would be a xx13.

There is very few times I will ever speak these words, but a G20 or G29 (personal favorite). That is unless you can find a S&W 610 or 1006. Of course then there's the P220 that sig had to go and taunt me with... yes, I have a 10mm problem :(

You ain’t the only one....

I've never owned a 10mm but did have a deposit on the Bren til it went tits up. I bought [off here] a complete top end and then got 2 magazines for it. My utter laziness has kept me from putting it on anything even with lotsa choices. I think I'll sell the whole thing and get a 10mm brl for a G21 that I have. Maybe that'll cure my "want".

Glock in what ever model fits you best. Add better sights or an optic and polish/replace the trigger. You'll never have to baby it or worry about any character marks it may get while using it afield.

I feel qualified to post to this thread.

I have a big, bombproof, insanely accurate Smith & Wesson 1026. It's my Church Protection concealed carry preference.
I have a wicked accurate Dan Wesson Pointman 7 1911 in 10mm. It's my Alternate Church Protection weapon.
And I have a Smith & Wesson Model 610 4" N Frame revolver that uses full moon clips. I use it to bang steel at 200 yards off hand with factory sights.
I have owned a Buckeye Blackhawk in 10mm/38-40. Loved it, wish I hadn't sold it.
I have owned a first year of production Colt Delta Elite. Loved it, wish I hadn't sold it.
I have owned a Rock Island Full Size Tactical 1911 in 10mm. I sold it after finding the DW PM7.
I have no interest in a Glock, but I can't say why or I will get flamed.

Bottom line is, while 41 Magnum is the Perfect Revolver Cartridge, 10mm is the Perfect Semi-Auto Pistol Cartridge. I love it, and I love every firearm I've shot in 10mm.

About the 1911... Tuner says that 10mm is too much for the 1911 platform. I have no reason to dispute him. If my Dan Wesson isn't up to it, I will wear it out and get another.

About the Delta Elite... it never had frame problems. The little crack was in the tiny bit of frame that they did not cut out over the slide release hole, which JMB did cut out. It was inconsequential, and it was fixed before the first year's production run was even half done.

About commercial ammo... most of it is not as powerful as it should be. I reload, and enjoy full power 10mm in all my firearms.

So, I don't think you can go wrong. The Rock Island full size 1911 10mm is the least expensive way to get into it. I am not sure if I will get another, but I like the EEA Witness Hunters. The Hi Point Carbine in 10mm is tempting, very tempting...

Years ago, a fellow in England converted a 357 Marlin levergun to 10mm... that project is very tempting, but very impractical.

Lemme know if you have any questions!
