Looking for the best solution to clean a 22 caliber Optimus micro suppressor with. I’ve probably run two bricks through it and it’s pretty crusty with power and lead build up. What’s the best thing I can buy to clean it?

Entire can is stainless

Do you happen to reload? If so, easiest way is to drop the baffles in the tumbler in your next batch of brass.

If you don’t, buy the small tumbler from HF and use that.

But don’t think they need to be spotless. Breaking the stack apart, knocking any chunks out, and reassembling is really all you need to do for awhile.

Wear gloves.

1/2 H202. As strong as you can buy it. Not the 30% stuff but 3# is OK.
1/2 Vinegar.

Break the stack apart . Let it soak for a while until its shiny again. Still wearing gloves right? Pour the remaining TOXIC sludge into a milk jug and take it to the dump when its full when they have one of those bring in your toxic sludge days.

May want to try cleaning ever 500 rounds next time. Also there are a few spray cleaners that work on SS good and safe.

SS in a tumbler will also work. I have yet to try that as I have cases of walnut and CC I'm still using for now.

I’ve put something like 80,000 9mm rounds thru a stainless baffle suppressor. What works well for me is Lyman concentrate (steel solution) in a ultrasonic cleaner, followed up by tumbling with stainless steel pins.

The baffles are unbelievably clean.

I use a Hornady ultrasonic and purple power solution. Knock off the big pieces before you throw it in. Then let it run in the cleaner for 20 min of so.

Quick and easy. They don't need to be super clean

I have the same ultrasonic cleaner and Ive owned much larger Branson cleaners over the years. Some very expensive. Ive never figured out what they did better than a hose off with brake cleaner.

For me it is a good balance between cleaning, effort and exposure to harsh chemicals

Do you use the Lyman stuff straight or dilute?

I dilute it per their recommended ratio for medium to heavy buildup. I’ve also ran undiluted Hoppes in up the ultrasonic cleaner and Slip 2000 Carbon Killer.

Here is a pic of the suppressor baffles from my MP5SD that I referenced earlier. These are AWC Systems Technology baffles from around 1994 and were an adoption of the product that they were providing to DevGru at the time. They are stainless and very heavy duty.

I've got an ultrasonic cleaner, the only thing that's worked for me is soaking in the 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/white vinegar solution. I used a piece of 1.5" PVC pipe with a glued on base to soak, and use only the amount of fluid needed. The HAZARDOUS used fluid is then poured into a disposable plastic bottle that's CLEARLY marked, then dropped off at the dump's hazmat station.
Wear gloves, do not let the used solution get on your skin, or lead will rapidly enter your bloodstream.
Or you could probably just used the SS pin Tumbler method.

Here’s the best read I’ve seen for your situation. Greatest effort at a scientific assessment I’ve ever seen. He focuses on stainless components due to the awful compounding effect of carbon and lead buildup in rimfire cans:

I will say , if I haven't already, dont ever bead blast stainless to get the lead off. Doing the dip is one thing where you end up with some sludge the dump will take. Blasting it off the baffles and it into the air is something completely different.

Wonder what the heck the dump does with random potentially deadly fluids.
Does one have to declare the contents, or just drop it off and run?

Theres lots of potentially deadly fluids.

It gets mixed up with all the other potentially deadly fluids and incinerated.
