Just bought 2 Browning Hi Powers, detail stripped one last night. No real issues getting it apart and cleaned, but getting the sear back in, OMG that sucked!

Best I did was put the sear pin in from one side and a punch from the other. Using my left hand hold the gun and my left thumb to pull the hammer back a bit and using my right hand drop in the sear, press it against the sear spring and hammer until it gets into the right place. Then using telekinesis push in the punch to hold it. Honestly, no idea how I pushed the punch.

Probably easier if the pistol is held in a padded vise, I’ll try that next time.

Any other tips?

BTW, did take out the mag disconnect. The trigger takeup is smoother, but the release is still pretty heavy. It’s no 1911 trigger.

According to Novak...P35s, the trigger you get is difficult to make "good". The hammer will start falling if the sear is finished too close.

I have found that if you insert an unloaded mag into the well about 1/2 way, it will release the pressure from the sear spring and makes it easier to insert the sear and pin.
With practice you will find the sweet spot to push the mag. Makes it 100x easier. The only other option is to have a 3rd hand or someone to help.

Jim Garthwaite makes a need little tool to wedge between the sear spring and frame...or you can make a little U shaped tool from a bent piece of wire to hold the hammer back. Do it a few hundred times and its a lot easier! LOL

I have zip tied the hammer back and it makes it much easier. A piece of coated wire also works.

The worst part to replace for me is the hammer spring. I can’t do it when my kids are around because of the “colorful language”they might hear.

Regardless, I love my Hi Powers.
