Does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations/good luck with any particular upper/lower billet receiver combos? Looking to do my "last" 11.5" SBR build now that I have a few cans on the way.

- 7075, ambi bolt release, forward assist, and compatibility with DD RIS or similar rails are a must
- Ambi bolt CATCH, set screw for takedown pin spring capture and ability to take a maritime bolt catch is greatly preferred
- 45 degree safety engravings would be nice to have

The Zev stuff seems to tick most boxes and were one of the ones I was eyeing earlier, but I'm a bit apprehensive hearing that some of their Glock parts are a bit of a mixed bag. I was not familiar with V Seven, so I will check that out, thanks.

The ADM stuff is killer, but so is the price. I hear they occasionally have blem sales, but haven't seen anything pop up.

My ZEV AR is without a doubt the most accurate AR I own. It's what I take to matches and it's never let me down. Their receiver sets, barrels and handguards are all beautifully made. I give ZEV ARs my 100% without a doubt recommendation.

Too rich for my wallet. I had a friend who paid almost as much for a Spikes lower as I did for all the parts for my poverty pony based AR.

I can get better groups from my cheap POS.

My budget would limit me to AP or Live Free Armory. But I don't think either of those would meet your criteria

All of my AR's are modest/budget builds. One is going to get gifted to my daughter when she turns 18, and there are a few other ones I'd stake my life on to go "bang" when I need it to, but they are either 16" builds or pistol builds, and while they have OK mlok rails, I don't know that they're "will the laser hold its zero if it falls out of a truck" level good. Since I'm getting into the suppressor game, I'd really like an 11.5" SBR build for something a little lighter and more maneuverable. I don't have many reasons to build any more AR's after that, so it's sort of a last hurrah/dream AR. If it wasn't for the fact that I really like flared magwells and having a right-side bolt release, I would probably just pick up a Wilson Combat forged setup and be done with it.

I'm with 1075tech. If I'm spending money on a lower it's either bottom of the barrel or true mil spec.

I can understand OPs line of thinking.

But that's the nice thing about ARs. You can do anything from cheap budget builds to high end.

Personally, I believe that the money is better spent on a quality barrel, trigger and glass/optics. Even my cheap 556 blasters on polymer lowers have Faxon barrels, Vortex glass and LaRue triggers.

Is there better quality? I'm sure.

I free float my barrels, use clamp on adjustable gas blocks, bed the barrel extension, true the upper , and loc-tite everything. I generally prefer a single stage trigger and have had good luck with Velocity and Rise Armament although I do have a couple with LaRue 2 stage.

Waiting on Criterion chrome lined barrels to come back in stock. It will get either my Triggertech or Wilson Combat duty trigger, Geissele LPK, DD front rail setup, Superlative gas block, and either Trijicon LPVO or Aimpoint dot. Undecided on BCG just yet.

Didn’t Zev buy out Mega Arms? I thought they did, then shut it down. I was surprised to see some available.

How about more traditional forged receivers like the LMT MARS-L or the PWS MK1 MOD 2?

You have to pair an upper from Bootleg with the PWS while LMT offers their MRP seres or a standard M4 style flat top upper.

Centurion Arms is about to release their complete hard chrome BCG with sandcutter type rails. Since Daniel Defense took their hard chrome BCG off the market, this is filling a gap in the market. Way easier to clean than NIB, Nitride etc

The LMT MARS has been on the radar since the controls really mirror those on the left side. I will look into the PWS since I'm not familiar with them.

Appreciate the heads up. I will check it out and see how they stack up to the DLC options.

Just as a follow-up, I got a good deal on a stripped LMT MARS-L lower. At <$300, I couldn't walk away from the mirrored "traditional" layout of the ambi controls and LMT reputation. Their stripped receiver already comes with the bolt catches, safety, and mag release as well, so I couldn't justify going billet with the Radian set being the only one I was really wanting, and even then, I prefer removable trigger guards.

Why do you prefer removable trigger guards?
I guess its not so much that I prefer they be removable as it is not liking the profile of most of the ones that aren't. I like them rounded/a lot of space around the trigger in case of shooting with thick gloves, so that the gloves can't get pinched under the trigger. I feel like a lot of the billet sets are too angled/abrupt. I also don't like trigger guards with cutouts on the bottom that some of the manufacturers machine into them. For example, I liked the big rounded Mega Arms lowers, but did not like the shallow angled SLR with the cutout.

I prefer the guard built into the lower. I see what you mean with the Mega. My 6.5G

At least Aero is nice enough to offer the option with or without on the regular forged lowers.

I was wanting one of theirs, I’m happy with both of my ambi billet lowers. The other is a Hogan. I didn’t notice the smaller trigger guard area until you pointed it out

I would highly recommend a Mega Arms billet upper & lower, I traded into the lower and I was blown away with the quality, fit & finish, I bought a matching upper and the tolerance accuracy is a sight to behold.

I'm not a big fan of Spikes Tactical but their tool less trigger guard is the ticket on builds that require one. You'll never worry about breaking trigger guard ears again!

If I'm going billet, I'd go with a side charger.
Gibbz makes a nice one.
Left side, non reciprocating.
So much easier to use.

+1 on the mega billet lower.
Nice stuff.

I love side chargers, but I wanted this one to be able to function without proprietary parts/carriers.
