But it may certainly grab your attention and leave a mark.

The story behind this pic is the guy took a load of birdshot during a burglary.

Hope they didn't use a local while they dug all those pellets out!

Sure hope he stole some aspirin from a previous job. If not he'd better "pick" some up on the way home from county. Hope homeowner doesn't get into too muck flack for shooting the feller in the back. Bad idea. Threat is gone if they are walking away.

That's like getting shot with a Taurus Judge with bird shot, it might not kill ya, but you'll wish it had!

That's not "birdshot"... Based on the number and size of the wounds it looks like #6 or 5..... Painful to say the least.....

Depends on the size of the bird. I used a lot of 6's for wood ducks. It also could be 7.5's or 8's off half a pattern to the left. Hard to calculate the lead on a perp running quartering away from you!

OC, probably not more than 15yds tops. Angle of the hit, no telling what the perp was doing. Lesson to all, if you're using #6 as a defense load, at least Modified Choke. Better to use #1 or 0 buck.

And aim a little more toward the front. ;)

I'm a big believer in enfilading or cross fire when dealing with a serious social situation.

Birdshot can and will kill you. That guy is Lucky he wasn't at 10 yards away and hit in the throat.

Or hit at the base of the cranium, that soft spot is vulnerable.

No sir, the threat is not gone if they are walking away. That's a problematic generalization. If their back is turned towards you as they advance on the room containing your children for instance, they are still very much a valid threat.

I teach to have a work up loaded in the tube.

bird x1, buck x2, Slug x 2 if you run a 5x If you run higher just add 1 but the bird.

Typically bird is a great starter shot, but always keep in mind if its worth shooting once, its worth 3 or 4 more.

And they are clearly not walking away. If they are walking away from you with their back to you and you shoot them in the back, I hope you have a great attorney.

Surprised me to find out my local PD runs bird shot if they are entering a home. I was skeptical until I talked to one of the cops about it. He said buckshot in the car, swap out for bird when they enter a house if they can.

I stumbled & shot a stone wall & the shot came back & got me in both legs. I was chasing my X & the fellar she was cracking so my stumble allowed them time to get the car cranked & peel out. Damn single shot shotgun.

im sure youre familiar with the saying, pics or it didnt happen

Bird does not penatrate sheet rock or other furniture as strongly in short ranges. But it's such a tight was of shot it's like a slug out to 2yds, buck from 2-5yds and crap past 5

Remember...all we're seeing in this particular shot is one view from one angle. And no circumstances/story is attached.

Pictures say a lot...but not the full story. These wounds could just be the tail end of a cr*pload more that we're not seeing. The person could have been involved in a hunting accident and not a criminal act. The person may have taken several shots in short succession based on the circumstances behind a criminal act.

We don't know.

BUT...there is a lot of common sense to the postings here, regardless.

And it would STILL suck getting shot like this, regardless of the circumstances!

Just because someone is moving away doesn't mean the threat is gone. If they're in range for you, you're in range for them.

Actually most cases I have read where "Castle Doctrine" or "Stand Your Ground" is questioned by the police and/or dismissed by the assistant DA as not applicable are those in which the perpetrator was retreating. If one shoots a person retreating, and that person turns out to be unarmed, one best have a good lawyer and deep pockets!

Well, how do we know he was retreating or walking away from the confrontation? Maybe he was armed, we don't know. Maybe he was diving for cover after seeing the shotgun. In that case as far as I am concerned he is fair game.

I have #7 shot in the chamber, and 5 rounds of 00 buck behind it.

I hate to say it like this, but if someones in my house, they arent leaving (unless they kill me first) I'd hate to think of that guy with the birdshot in his back and how painful that is and how PISSED he is, and being he probably wont get any serious time, if any at all... Now you've got a pissed off, peppered up bad guy that knows where you live.... and you shot him........... The 2nd time he comes back, you may not be as lucky.
