“Jussie Smollett must be brought to justice for lying,” Ali said. “We believed Smollett at the beginning. We gave him the benefit of the doubt, but over the last few days, we’ve seen this campaign of lies by Smollett continue to be unraveled.”

Get this guy. Yeah..Sharpton taking the holy-road. He was mighty slimey when he barfed all over himself and Twana Brawley with the exact same accusation..didn't seem to have any problem with that though. I hope he enjoys his last years because when his day comes this is one that's surely gonna burn.

And Jerry's final thought; Juicy says he fought off his attackers as a proud gay black victim and caused them to run away after he boldly stood his ground.
This is the most obvious bullcrap about the whole story. You see the pic of them guys? Just one bitch-slap from either one of them would have Juicy crying fo' his mamma, let alone if they would've opened up a real can of whoop-ass on him. Within seconds they could have easily beat him into another time zone.

I'm a firm believer in a person facing the same level of punishment as the charges they made up, should it be proven that they made them up. I'm not talking about the accused being found "not guilty" but that the accuser is found guilty of making up said charges. In this case, if it can be proven that he made up the whole thing, he faces whatever the maximum penalty is for committing a hate crime, assault etc.

You damn right. The lies women tell to keep daddy on the hook for child support but no visitation because she likes revenge. My favorite is the calls to child protective services to investigate the fathers.
 
Personally, I think the potential for disastrous unintended consequences here is greatly under valued. I think Smollett threw a lit match at a power keg and fortunately it went out before any damage was done. When I first heard this story, I thought, great, we're going to have people attacking people wearing MAGA hats in retaliation. What if that had happened? Don't you think anyone was considering it? What kind of escalation might have resulted, especially since many MAGA hat owners have a higher likelihood of being armed? Heck, what if that was the motivation for that guy in Kentucky? Maybe he was an Empire fan. :D

Conversely this may be the pill to take the fire from these "activists", at least maybe they will wait for an actual offence before they start the riots for a while.

The political ones maybe, because they want to maintain some level of credibility. But, the rest of the crowd is running on emotion. I don't know that I would give them credit for being reasonable and logical and think like we would. :D
This will likely just frustrate them I to some other action, because they "know" MAGA people are really that way anyway. So, even if it's made up, it's still true. (To them.):rolleyes:

TMZ is reporting that the hoax case may go to a grand jury as early as today.
 
And it seems that Empire writers are frantically rewriting scripts and taking screen time away from Smollet's character, writing some scenes out entirely and in others downplaying his role and elevating the roles of other cast members.

A good point and a possibility.
 
When I first saw this story on Good Morning America my first thoughts were of theTawana Brawley and the Duke lacrosse incidents. Just too many strange claims in his story. Unlikely he will receive the real Justice he deserves. Those that cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it.
 
I'm having trouble locating it now but an article I read late last night or early this morning indicated that the Chicago PD had the two brothers under surveillance to keep others from "getting to them" to change their stories.

I've wondered a couple times over the last several days if higher ups in the media/entertainment industry would attempt to buy their silence/pay them off to disappear back to Nigeria to make this issue go away.

The name peaked my interest as well and wanted to know more about it. That and I can't help thinking about the two brothers and if they are princes and need help transferring international funds. The idea they could be bought was never a doubt. :D

From the moment I heard this story, I had a strong hunch that it was all faked. I'm glad to see that the truth came out as quick as it did.

I do think that when someone creates a hoax like this, with intent to create violence and civil unrest, they should be charged for false police reports, falsifying evidence, etc. There should be repercussions.
 
I had a suspicion it was fake when I was walking to the car in 20 degree weather and complaining about how cold it was...yet somehow a couple of rednecks found it desirable to wait out in sub zero temperatures with a bottle of bleach (which would freeze...freezing point of bleach is around 19degrees) to jump someone while wearing MAGA hats in one of the most liberal cities on earth...when their faces and heads would literally freeze due to sub zero temperatures. That or they put their MAGA hats on OVER their sock hats, jacket hoods, and scarves...
 
How much is this whole fiasco going to cost Chicago and Illinois taxpayers (plus Federal since the FBI almost was called in)? All the time LEOs spent viewing all cameras they could find in the area. All the time LEOs spent interviewing people in the area and gathering “evidence”. All the digging into the “tips” and leads that some people wanted to make to show the story to be true. Then the time to bring in and interview the 2 accomplices and chase down the various phone, text, etc of the idiot, his manager, etc to get the facts. Now they waste more money on the Grand Jury, court costs, etc if they pursue the matter like they should. I’d hate to guess the man hours, lab resources, etc but the total bill for the whole for time he called in the fake attack until the justice system finishes with him has got to be in the 7 digits in wasted tax payer money.

I read the same. Police confiscated some magazines with missing pages from the two brothers' apartment. They've possibly tied those missing pages to the cutouts used to craft that letter.
