Anyone working on any? I read that using faster pistol type powders like Unique makes them much quieter, but I haven't tried it yet. Anybody want to trade a pound or two of Lil'gun for Unique?

I'd be interested in the powder and bullets you're using if you're getting respectable accuracy as well.

I'm curious myself now. The smaller amount of faster powder may decrease gas volume to make it quieter??

Yep. Faster powder has a larger pressure spike sooner but less pressure later when the bullet passes the gas port and exits the bore. So there won't be enough late gas pressure to run an AR, but for the same reason there will be less gas and pressure exiting the muzzle behind the bullet, therefore quieter.

Aa1680 is pretty fast for rifle length barrels if a faster powder is your goal.

Also VV3N38 is very slow pistol powder, borders on fast rifle powder.

I'd not be scared to give titegroup a try.
I've used it in 308 subs with excellent results.

My experience says fast powders in carbine length barrels are not the recipe for accuracy, but if minute of white tail is the goal, go for it.

Slacker, would you share your 308 Titegroup recipe? I've used it with 9mm 124 grain...... IMO fast burning powder.

IMR4227 is another powder to consider for .300Blk subs from 175gr to 230gr projectiles. ~9gr to 11gr is your charge weight working range for those projectile weights.

AA1680 is slower than the Lil'gun I've been using, and way slower than a typical pistol powder. It generates a lot of late gas which is what makes it work so well for ARs, so it should also be rather loud.

Good info on the accuracy, I'll have to see what I get with Unique. Accuracy is more important than a decibel or two, to me anyway.

Does it run ARs? I'm trying to trade gas for lower sound signature. If it has enough gas pressure to run an AR I'm probably not interested in it.

Thanks Slacker.

Fellas, ive had good accuracy with the remington factory 220 grain subs.....the ones most people complain about. They were very consistent and subsonic with my ruger ranch rifle while unsuppressed (16.5 inch barrel.). I do have about 100 rounds of subs with 208-225 grain bullets, using h110, CFE-BLK, and win 296. Not the fast powders...but hopefully by this weekend i will have some results to share with you guys.

I use H110 in my single shot. But it's not producing enough gas volume to cycle my AR the way I want. So going to switch powder when I can track down some VV N120.

I have been using trail boss and 90gr hornady xtp bullets. In turn I use h110 for my full power Barnes hunting loads.

Trail boss is typically used for subsonics. You're shooting 90gr subs in 300blk?

Yes great thing is it’s a pistol bullet and made to expand at the lower velocities

Interesting! What recipe are you using for the 90grs?

Edit- Trail boss is listed for 300BLK and 308 Win right on the Hodgdon site: https://www.hodgdon.com/trail-boss/ (though not for 90gr, but I'm intrigued)

What bolt guns are yall running for 300blk?
I have a Barnes Precision in 300 blk with an Omega, but thinking I'd like to buy or build a bolt gun for it as well. Most seem to have pencil barrels which are not great for hanging a can on the end.

Ruger American Ranch.

Handi AAC SD here, but I lust the R700
Micro short action.
Downside is heavy subs don't fit/feed well in it, so I've heard.
Aftermarket support is limited for it also.

OK, I finally got around to bussin some caps today....... it kind of sucked, but I'm narrowing my problems down. I shot 40 rounds, all with once fired, once neck sized Remington brass, 220 grain Sierra Match Kings, and OAL was 2.26o inches. Ruger American Ranch, with 16.5 inch barrel.

9.2 grains of Winchester 296 was in the 890 fps range...... TERRIBLE vertical string, horizontal OK.
8.2 grains of Winchester 296 was in the 775 fps range..... TERRIBLE vertical string, horizontal OK.
12.2 grains of CFE-BLK was in the 940 fps range..... and gave me the best groups....
In my notes I recorded 2" groups with CFE-BLK and 208 grain Amax bullets..... but of course I didn't note the charge...... (bonehead).

All indication show I have plenty of room to experiment with upping the charge and I will probably work on getting the bullet a little closer to the lands, I don't mind loading one round at a time.

Suppressed or unsuppressed, made no difference in my groups.... I'm almost positive my ridiculous vertical strings are related to resting the fore end of the stock on the front bag, while I bury my weight on the cheek rest which also puts weight on the stock which rests in a rear sandbag. The CFE groups, I changed it up with a front bag only, with the sandbag under the action (just in front of the magazine), and my groups improved.... but not where I wanted.

Please feel free to give me a hard time on this one!!

I forgot about this thread..... I finally got it dialed in. Originally.... either I did a bad job with my loads or it's a powder issue. However...… the powder choice and velocity is important here. I was most consistent when my loads were just below supersonic velocity....around 1050 fps. I'm still using the 208 grain Amax bullet at 2.270 overall length. Without question.... Winchester 296 was the most consistent for me, with charges of 10-10.5 grains. The CFE-BLK was a close second, but not as good as the 296.
At any rate here are my results, It consistently shoots around 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards.
