A fellow CFF gave me some lanolin and iso heet to make a close of Dillon (and likely others) case lube.

I've been youtubing (which I guess will end soon because they're removing reloading videos?) about making your own lube which involves those very same ingredients (just add a spray bottle).

What is not consistent is the ratio of iso alcohol (99%) to lanolin. I've seen 4:1, 6:1, 8:1, 12:1- all the way up to 24:1.

Anyone here have the perfect ratio?

I’ve always used 12:1.

I just use PAM cooking spray. :D

I use a 10:1 ratio as shown on the linked video. In fact I also use the same sprayer and unlike my bottle of Dillon lube, it has never stopped up. I don't think a few points (12:1) will make any difference, but I suspect that if you get too much lanolin (24:1), you may begin to see build up in the sizing dies. Regular cleaning with 99% IPA takes care of any build up easily enough though.

This has worked great for me. No stuck pistol cases, no denting case shoulders with rifle. Easy clean up. Love this stuff.

X2
10ish to 12:1
Alcohol is simply the delivery tool to the lubricant (lanolin), so remember when your lubing a tray or bucket to let the alcohol dry before you start resizing / working the brass.

Two complete applications to your brass (spray, dry, spray again) would essentially be 20:1 because maths.
So mix proper, and applying properly is equally important to brass and die cleaning.

I make mine 10:1 but 12:1 might wash off better if you are wet tumbling. I've gotten lazy to the point of wiping the case with a rag while I'm reloading after the resize or not, depends on the mood

This is one of those cases where people get WAY too analytical about the actual ratio of alcohol to lanolin because "SCIENCE". When in reality it's a situation where it is: "close enough for horse shoes and hand grenades" is good.

The alcohol is just the carrier solvent for the lanolin (solute). The solution needs to be thin enough to easily spray but not too dilute to ineffectively coat the brass. Anywhere from 8:1 down to 20:1 dilution should work just fine. ;)
