I know that hydration packs are the go-to for the majority now, but the other day I really wanted to have a bag just to sling over my shoulder and carry in addition to a backpack and thought of those old bota bags we used hiking in the.. 80s I guess.

There are very few I can find, but they just seem like they'll ride nicely compared to a standard cylinder style water bottle in a carrier.

Are there new ways of carrying water that aren't a hydration bladder or a plastic cylinder bottle in a bag?

I recall the biggest drawback to those was the weight bouncing around as I walked. Great for outdoor concerts, though!

A buddy of mine 3D printed a belt clip that snaps around the neck of a Schmaht Watta bottle; it works ok.

The benefit of water bottle slings in lieu of a bota bag is that you can get GOOD insulated water bottles that will keep things cold for hours and hours. Ergonomically though, nothing I can think of over a single shoulder that's any better.

Nalgene makes a 2L canteen. We use them in our Hill People Gear packs.

My use case is to keep it empty in the car, and if I need it fill it from a gallon jug and then walk. Insulation is a luxury in this case.
