In May, the city council voted to ban possession of high-capacity magazines, bump stocks and so-called assault rifles. Residents would be barred from selling these items as well. With the prospect of door-to-door confiscation apparently too much of a hassle, the city decided to grandfather in people who already legally owned the rifles.

There’s only one catch.

To continue legally owning an AR-15 or other assault rifle, gun owners are required to “certify” their gun with the Boulder police. Authorities have declared a Dec. 27 deadline for certifications. After that, any resident owning an assault rifle will be in major legal trouble.

So now CWII can begin in either NJ over magazines or CO over Modern Sporting Rifles.
And migrants at the Mexican border want $50,000 each to go home and not enter the US. Yeah, RIGHT!!!!!

Guess we'll see what happens next. Probably a bunch of folks knuckling under.

City council needs to look at the implications of the statement in this and reevaluate their position.

I honestly can't believe they have any idea what they are really doing. If they (and others of like mind) knew the firestorm they are creating, they would think again. This will not end well for those that are unarmed. If they think the police/and or military will (or even want to) protect them, well I just wouldn't bet MY life on that.

Most politicians can't fathom people not doing what they're told, what's "best" for them.

That dillhole from California, Representative Nuke the Resisters, said the American People are law abiding, and would remain so and turn them all in during his proposed buyback.

Self-righteous do gooders can't comprehend how anyone can say "No."

I don't understand why the registration in Connecticut was never challenged and why this one even got started.
Isn't this exact thing forbidden in FOPA?

Supposedly the great civic leaders have tasked the local department with “certifying” that the owner passes a background check and then issue 2 certificates (both go to the AR’s owner ... 1 to stay with the AR and 1 for the owner to keep in a safe place and the local department supposedly doesn’t keep any record) saying said owner legally owned and possessed said AR prior to the date the ban goes into affect ... basically “certifying Grandfathered”... and you gotta pay $20 for this service.

Side note ... I’d love to see someone who really wanted to trigger some questions take in an 80% build for them to certify. Depending on the Person handling the certification process it could be real interesting.

I'm serious. The only way this s@#t stops, is a mass show of non compliance by us gun owners.
I was thinking this same thing this afternoon. Not necessarily a show of force with AR's, but what if a couple of thousand people showed up and said, "We will not comply." Will they arrest them all? Would that show them that they are being myopic and that not everyone agrees?

Realistically, what are they going to do if the majority does not comply, like in Connecticut?

I didn’t bother clicking the links. Nonsense is just a waste of time. But, can anyone tell me whether “certification” involves actually bringing a firearm to some civic office? They really want people marching up the steps with their rifles?

Co has had a 10 round mag law for awhile already. You don't see cops arresting folks for having standard mags. I don't see anyone getting arrested over this, unless it's an add on charge for a real crime.

ALL laws only work if the majority of the population agrees to comply. Where speed limits are set too low, people ignore them and almost nobody is cited as a result.

Since any rifle could be an assault rifle, for example a Springfield '03 was the assault rifle used in WW1 and shotguns were used in every theater, are they expecting every long gun to be registered? if they specified AR-15 is that written as a rifle patterned after the Eugene Stoner Armalite rifle or that specific model? Many court cases have hinged on specific wording.

You have to own one in order to turn one in or register....

Honestly I don't know anyone who actually owns one. I know a lot of people who borrow them from friends; I know I don't have any....
