Does anyone use a bowflex? I see them fairly cheap on Facebook. My wife need to start doing some light training and doesn't want to go to a gym. So I'm thinking of getting a bowflex and a clothes hanger(treadmill).

I had one for a while. It took up so much space I was glad to get rid of it. And no, it didn't get used very much.

My dad had one at work, didn't work for him because he couldn't get full extension or get even close to maxing out. But he's 6 2 and fairly Beasty. Seems like it would work well for normal sized people if you're not weight training

I have one. Use 5-6 days a week
Which one do you have? I'm thinking of this because I'm not interested in free weights for my wife. She needs to do some sort of weight training because her surgery. I found a bowflex ultimate for 225 I'm debating it.

Xtreme 2

I had a Ultimate around 12 years ago.

If space is not an issue go with the ultimate

I've got a perfectly good nightstand to hang dirty clothes on, what would I need a Bowflex for?

My roommate in college had one in our condo. It was OK for a light workout or basically a step above stretching. The resistance just wasn't enough to get good workout from it. For someone just starting out or someone who hasn't worked out in a long time it would likely be fine.

May I make two possible suggestions?

1. Total Gym* - Can get them used for a great price and they offer a lot in a smaller (well, easy to store) package. Tons of videos available if it doesn't come with papers. Plenty of models to choose from, a little homework will help you choose wisely.

2. Fitness / Resistance Bands - Again, cheap entry and can grow as needed. Lots and lots of variations as well as lots of videos for workout options.

Both can get her started cheaply and easily. They can both grow with her as well. Both provide no/low impact, strength gain. If in a year you need something more advanced, think how proud both of you will be of her progress.

* - I know, I know, but they really are useful machines that can provide a lot of benefits.
