This movie has an all star cast. You will have to look on IMBD to identify some if them.
Cop action flick that adds in orks, elves, and magic.
Worth a watch.

Critics hated it , but it's gotten good fan feed back. I watched it last night and my wife watched it today and we both enjoyed it

It reminded me a lot of Shadowrun (for the non-gamers, magic comes back around the time cyberpunk stuff is invented, so basically Johnny Memonic meets Dungeons and Dragons) with lower tech. It wasn't well scripted, a lot of cheesy dialogue and plot lines that sort of fizzled out but I enjoyed it. It really needed to be a series, 4 or 6 episode sort of deal

I totally need an elven hit squad.

I watched the trailer, here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5519340/

This looks awful. To the guys who are saying the movie was worthwhile, did you enjoy the trailer? Or did you think the trailer sucked, but the movie turned out to be much better?
The trailer really doesn't do it justice. I think we get used to the trailer over selling. This time it under sold it.

Thanks for the feedback. From the trailer, I'd give it a 4/10. Assuming the trailer undersold it by a fair amount, I'll assume it's actually 6/10. Which isn't high enough to bother with IMHO.

Except if you're already a Netflix subscriber, your only additional investment is the time to watch it.

I'll probably watch it myself before going back to work after the New Year's.

I long ago learned to ignore critics, good or bad reviews.

I like what I like and I don't like what I don't like. All someone else's opinion amounts to is agreeing or disagreeing with my own assessment.

I agree, I generally form my own opinions on stuff, regardless of who liked or didn't like it.

All the news I saw on this wascritics absolutely trashing it. Some calling it the end of Smith’s career. Like others have said: who the hell cares about what critics say. It’s funny to look ast the spread between Rotten Tomatoes (a critic aggregate) and Netflix and/or iTunes ratings (presumably the vast majority being normal people). I think I was looking at Die Hard 2 the other day and it had a low Tomato rating (like 40% or so) but 4.5 stars. A critic who rips Die Hard 2 should be castrated.

Yeppers...

The bottom like is "did you enjoy the movie?"

If so, then everybody else can bugger off.

Meh. I find there is a lot of value in aggregate reviews, such as the IMDB rating. From experience I've found that if the rating is <7, I will almost always find the movie to be a waste of time. 7-8 could be worthwhile if it's in a genre I tend to enjoy. >8 and odds are good I'll enjoy it even outside my favored genres.

Sure, but that requires investing the time to watch the movie. Something I'm not willing to do unless I have some indicators that the time won't be wasted - which is where aggregate ratings come into play. And if ratings are borderline, I'll invest a few minutes to watch the trailer.

Taking Bright as an example: a few people here said they enjoyed it. OK, I'm curious, and check IMDB, and it's 6.7. Strong indication that this will suck. But since guys here like it and it's a cop movie, I'll spend a few min to watch the trailer. Trailer is awful, I'm out, and fairly confident that I sidestepped a total waste of viewing time.

I thought the trailer looked bad but watched it anyway..... I like it! A good mix of guns, explosions, and magic stuff. I recommend watching it.

Well, your time, like your opinion, is your own to use as you see fit. Nothing wrong with that.

We all use a variety of inputs with respect to movies and shows to make a determination on what to watch (or not).

Holy Pile of doggie doo, Batman! That is the the running for worst movie I've ever seen.

I'm usually into the sci-fi stuff - not huge, but I enjoy the genre. This was not good imho. I stopped it twice and came back to it. Once I start something I usually have to finish it. I regret finishing this one.

bingo. It took me 3 sessions. Each time I rewound a few minutes 'cause I felt lost. Then I just realized, "nope, it just doesn't make any sense)

Meh...It was obviously a low-budget Netflix movie. I didn't expect anything major.

I enjoyed it for what it was.

I thought it was kind of an off-take from Alien Nation, with a fantasy-characters twist as opposed to an aliens twist.

Wow, from top of this thread to bottom is what I would call "mixed reviews". I guess folks either love it or hate.

It's really a matter of taste and what floats your boat. This is why I pay little, if any, attention to film critics. I care about what I like and don't like...not what other's say I should like or not like.

For example, superhero movies...I love 'em. All of 'em. They appeal to the kid in me, even at their worst. Even if it's not a blockbuster movie raking in tens of millions in the first weekend of release. Don't care...I get to sit and watch a superhero movie and that's fun for me.

Eleves and magic are not sci-fi, this was fantasy. LOTR type of stuff.

It didn't hold my attention. Certainly not the worst movie I've seen. I'm just not a fan of stuff like this.

I see your assertion and I raise you - the most recent Fantastic Four movie.

:)

OK, I'll play this game! :D

I'll match you and raise you the 1994 Fantastic Four:

I think you missed my point. Your asserted that you love all superhero movies. I challenged you with the Craptastic Four.

I'm not subject to the same challenge because I won't watch crappy movies even in genres I otherwise enjoy, as evidenced by my posts in this thread.

Oh, no....I got it. Which is why I responded with the 1994 Fantastic Four, which was soooooo bad it was never released...not even officially on video. The kid in me liked it, too, even though it sucked.

The kid in me liked the last FF, too...but I freely admit the movie sucked objectively. Part of it is the concept in use every time a reboot takes place (though thankfully not for the latest Spiderman)...namely, they feel they have to start all over again with the origin story.

They need to stop that...everybody knows how the characters came into being, we don't need to see it again. Spend more time on the storyline and less on recreating their origins. We also don't need to see the same bad guy rebooted, either. By the time the last FF movie got to the actual action, there was only about 10 minutes of it...and as a result, even that sucked. Just continue the story and work a little new background in for character development.
