For a pistol mounted light is brighter better? That's what I thought but I was watching some reviews and someone said they liked their 100 lumen light because if you lit a wall it didnt blind you like a 600 lumen would. Never thought of that before. Turned off the lights and tried it at my house with an 800 lumen flashlight and it didnt bother my vision but my walls arent white, lol.

Yes, brighter is better. We haven’t yet reached technology that makes too bright of a light. I’ve said this in several threads before where this topic comes up, but if you are blinding yourself, then you need to get some training on how to properly search with a light.

I’m currently using a 800 lumen TLR-1 and a couple of the 600 lumen X300 ultras and I’m wanting to upgrade to the 1000 lumen x300. Those lower lumen lights simply do not have the power to light up a room effectively enough for a proper search.

I have a 300 lumen TLR-1S, it will "flash" your vision if you look at the center on a light or reflective background at household distances. It takes a mighty dim light not to degrade your natural low light vision temporarily just turning it on in the same room, that's just how eyes work, and the older you are the slower they adjust, I'm not gonna use something that dim. I am content with my choice, it lights every room in the house except the basement well enough to have a full field of view and not just a wedge of light. I am far more likely to have to step out an bust a dog/yote/raccoon screwing with our animals than face a home invader, it illuminates a very wide area and reaches over 100' which easily meets my needs for pistol mounted.

I have 1k lumen lights on my hd carbine ( I mean pistol [emoji15]) and my Glock. Yes if you shine it at a wall 4 feet in front of you it isn’t pleasant. Get some training. Use the splash of the light not the hot spot. Aim at the ceiling or floor if your going to sweep a room. There is no such thing as too much light currently. I want all the lumens so I can get some compliance when I shine Johnny douchebag with it in the face. That way I may not have to canoe his head!

I don't want a lot of light indoors.
Too much reflecting off nearby walls blinds my old eyeballs.

I shoot on low settings at night matches because if your light hits a wall, barrels or anything close by it's blinding to the darkness beyond.

thanks for all the info. I had my flashlight on tight beam when I played with it. I'll be sure to ask about using a light when I take a CQB class
