I'm sure Slacker is going to "I told you so" (actually he already did), but my Athlon Argos 6-30x50 just broke in the middle of a range session. I was firing a series of handloads and between shots the image went from fantastic to unable to focus and it had a fish-eye distortion.

To be fair, I really like(d) the scope. Very bright and the price is right. I've never been one to dump a lot of money on glass as _every_ non-premium scope I've had has 'worked'. This is the first casualty.

So now my followup will be to see what customer service is like for Athlon.

Interesting I have one Argos that has been on a 6.5 Grendel for a while with no issues actually just added another from this forum. What did you have it mounted on?

I've got it on a Savage FCP in 308. Wasn't shooting anything too fancy (powerful).

I have 2 athlon argos 6x24x50 scopes. One is on a 6.5 grendel the other is on my savage b22. They both have went back for the side focus stopped working. They both where replaced with brand new scopes. Athlon customer service is very good. Takes 1 to 2 weeks to get a new scope after they get the old one. The warranty return info is on their website.

But I will not be buying another athlon. I like that they have a great warranty but I hate to use it on a $330 scope.

My ruger predator needs a scope but it will be getting a swfa 12x42.

Has anyone had any experience with the higher end models Ares etc? I am curious if they have seen issues as well.

I've got to give a thumbs up to Athlon customer service. Super-responsive, sent me emails for every step along the way. Call them today and spoke to customer service and then got the actual service technician.

Bad news: my 6-30x56 MOA SFP is (long) discontinued. They are unable to repair.

Good news: they're sending me a 8-34x56 MIL FFP instead (I had to pay the difference in MAP, which ended up being $40).

Considering I'm getting exposed turrets, a lighted reticle, MIL and FFP upgrades for a scope that should work with my existing rings, I'm very happy.

I love hearing good stories about optics companies that I have no direct experience with. I will add them to the short list of optics to keep my eye out for.

Excellent news! I've heard much good about Athlon support although it would obvioulsy be better to not ever need it!

Re others asking about the higher end models ... from the Hide there are good reports on them given the price points. Good enough that I just bought an
Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50, APLR3 FFP IR, MIL Reticle during the recent sale for $549 w/ a throw lever and billet level

Geez sounds like a scope to avoid. Thanks for the honesty everybody. Guess I won’t chase the bottom dollar on my next scope purchase.
