Brother-in-law just diagnosed with two different cancers

Sending many prayers for all involved. Being a care-giver is tough.

We are approaching another holiday season with Ines, my oldest BIL, still figuring back. He's already lived a year beyond what St. Elizabeth's hospital in Boston told him.

But my youngest BIL was also just diagnosed with late stage lung cancer. Life long smoker. He's in his 50's.
He was having trouble breathing. Hospital only let him into the ER because that is a COVID symptom.

Hang in there @fishgutzy and be as positive as you can. lung C is survivable. I have done it twice. It definitely takes it's toll, but I'm still here to be a pain the ass!

Prayers for you, your BIL and all your family!

Would likely have been caught months earlier if hospitals and doc offices hadn't shut down in MA for everything that isn't COVID.
Fingers crossed though.

You're right, that's VERY wrong!

I am sorry for the timing sir!

The End is Nigh.
Ines was just transferred to home hospice care. He has been in the hospital for the last 3 weeks. Lots of transfusions because his hemoglobin was so low. Cancer has spread far too much. Nothing more they can do.
Family had to talk his daughter out of trying to take him to Boston, from PR.
His wife, had a debilitating stroke last year that left her immobile, and she has dementia. The daughter lives with them and does most of the care when she isn't at work.
Travel restrictions complicate family trying to fly there to help out in with hospice care.

Yeesh. What she must be going through....

Prayers sent.

Doctors decided it was best to keep in the hospital for hospice care due to the care needs of his wife at home already.
Just pain management now. He can't eat. And no IV due to kidneys shutting down.

When my father was at that stage it was only a matter of days.

In Ines' case it is the type of lung cancer that strikes men in families with a history of breast cancer. Also complicated by the stomach cancer.

Currently in hospice. It has spread to his brain. The tumor is causing pain that meds don't help. So this time they are doing radiation to shrink the tumor a bit but only as part of pain management, not to treat the cancer per se. Cancer is throughout his body now.

God I am sorry for what you and yours are going through!

Obviously I was blessed with an earlier diagnosis and good treatment both times. Pure luck!

My best to you and your family sir.

Prayers sent!

Ines passed while sleeping in the early morning hours today.
He had been feeling better that last few day. They had taken out all of the tube. Just basic pain management.
He was lucid and conversational with family yesterday. He went to sleep one last time. He passed without pain or suffering.
He was my favorite brother-in-law. An avid fisherman and with the patience of a saint.

Sorry for your loss. Prayers for the family in this difficult situation.

My wife is flying down to PR tomorrow for the funeral. PR is actually allowing funerals and burials. My wife has to pay $140 for a COVID test because it is deemed not medically necessary.
Other family flying down from Boston.
