One of my wife's brothers has been in and out of the hospital over the last several years due to complication of diabetes. Diabetes is a big problem in her extended family.
Yesterday he was admitted after another heart attack. But this time there is no recovering.
Doctors have gone through the protocols.
His daughters have agreed to take take him off life support on Tuesday.
This is the third death in the family in 2 years.
I am not able to leave China to be there for her and the family. China boss won't allow it because he is not my immediate family. Maybe he'll have a change of heart. But I doubt it. (Irony: he claims to be a Christian pastor here in China.)
I have plenty of airline miles to use for the airfare for my wife and son to fly up.
My wife has to make sure the dogs are up to date so they can be taken to Dog Days.
All I can do is be on text messaging for my wife.

I'll pray for all of you. Also for your boss...hopefully he'll change his mind and learn to have a kinder heart.

Just to complicate things, I'm suffering a hard pollen allergy response despite allergy meds. On two recent trip it advanced to upper respiratory infection by the time I got home. I'm just hoping the departure date doesn't get extended. No access to healthcare or any medicine in China. Only if I get hit by a car or something really catastrophic.

How does that work? You can't get any medical treatment short of something life threatening?

Yup. Only have catastrophic coverage in China. And contrary to various myths, the Chinese do not have free health care either.
If it comes to it, I might be able to score antibiotics if needed.

Misses is Type 1, diabetes can be mean.
I’ll watch the dogs for you. Either at our place or yours. PM for details if you want to make a plan.

Prayers sent to The Almighty. As you know more than me, China's a DIFFERENT culture.
May He keep and bless you and yours.

Sad to hear of your family's loss, Fishy. Sending prayers up and thoughts out for the best possible outcome in a sad situation.

Thank you for the offer. Our dogs actually like going to Dog Days. They play in a big pack all day. They are exhausted when they get home again.
DD temperament tests all dogs before allowing them in the pack.

Prayers to your wife and her family, you also of course.

Prayers your way and the family to cope with this tough situation.

Just got word. All the tests have been done to confirm brain death.
His daughters will take him off life support tomorrow.
That is never easy. It looks like he is sleeping with CPAP.
MA has protocols in place to prevent overly aggressive organ harvesting. They include a mandatory 24 waiting period after all the verification tests are completed.

Just now saw this. Very sorry to hear this. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

I feel for your family in this time. I lost my grandfather almost a year ago exactly and it freaking sucks.
Thoughts are with you

Prayers up for the family.

@fishgutzy If you get an infection and can’t get medical treatment for an infection maybe there is access to pet stores or stores that sale pet supplies? I’m no DR, you should always see a DR, but this is just a thought for SHTF or situations with no access to a professional. ;)

Anyway Fishmox is Amoxicillin, comes in 250 & 500 mg capsules.
