Looking for suggestions on a budget light for my bedside G17. I really don't want to spend more the $100, I'm not an LEO or an Operator. I'm justing looking for a good light to see in my house, or down the driveway, maybe 25 yards at the most.

I have a few TLR-1 lights and really like them. I’ve gotten the two I own used for around $80.

+1 for the TLR-1. Dependable, relatively inexpensive, and not so bright that you blind yourself.

TLR-1. If you aren't in a hurry watch for used and subscribe to Primary Arms email list. They used to go on sale for $80 or $90 pretty regular.

Got mine and haven't really watched for them but imagine they still do.

Another option..... Skip the weapon-mount. More often than not, in your house you want illumination without pointing a gun at the subject.

Keep the light very handy, but NEVER use it without putting it away in the spot where you'd need it.

I agree to a point.

I have weapon lights on all of my HD weapons and just like with anything else one needs to train with the tool to get Proficient with it, any quality weapon light will have more than enough spill to illuminate an area without pointing a weapon at something prior to identifying if it’s a threat needing a gun pointed at it or being shot.

With that said my wife and daughter on the other hand both use handheld lights rather than weapon mounted lights (with the exception to my wife’s AR but that’s a work in progress), but I also make sure they practice with the handheld light while we are at the range.

Completely agree. Having a light mounted on a firearm doesn’t mean you >have< to use it. It is an additional option. You can still carry a flashlight if you wish. Proper use of a WML is to splash light around and if necessary can be used to blind targets.

Get a TLR-1, great light and can often be had for 100 bucks.

I really would like to try one of the Olight weapon mounted lights. I think it's called Valkerie? They are often on sale for about $65ish. Just haven't done it.

I love my S15 baton edc (1aa battery). Plus a few other olight models I have. Their CS is great the one time I had to use it.

I like streamlight alot as well. Hell I have an old school scorpion non led I keep on my yard varmiter for ''night ops" lol. Had that light for over ten years so put it to use:D

My Belgian Mal chewed the hell out of it, chewed all of the rubber out "knurled" the aluminum body with teeth marks and the rear of the housing is now oval shaped. Still worked as usual. Told streamlight what happened. They sent out a new rubber cover free of charge and even requested pics of the pup and light:D. So good CS there too.

I will say. That same scorpion won't handle recoil on a 12g pump:(. After about 3 shots the recoil pulls the tines of the bulb out of the socket:cool:

Streamlight all the way. I've used this one for 10 years " professionally" and now it's on my G17 nightstand gun. For the money you can't beat them. I've beat the snot out of that one for years, always works. Have on on my AR too...probably 7-8k rounds through it...not a hiccup. 20190302_193323.jpg

Here-
Olight - blindingly bright, they claim 600 lumens @100 yds. Clean fit and finish.

That's actually pretty sweet looking. I don't know about the longevity of the lithium battery though. Is it replaceable? They tend to fall off after a couple of years of use.

In the close to 10 years since I bought my 1st TLR-1 I've replaced the battery maybe 4 times? Not sure the savings on batteries actually works out if you can't change the cell.

Has the Streamlight TLR1 been mentioned yet?:D

Never heard of that one, is it new to the market? :p

My X300 Ultra has held up extremely well and never given me a moments trouble, same for my Surefire mini Scout light on my AR, but if I had to do it over I would have gotten the TLR1 and the Streamlight Protac Rail Mount 1, I put a Protac Rail Mount 2 on my wifes AR and it has also held up perfectly but with it being a 2 cell light its rather long, the Protac rail mount 1 is the same size as the mini scout for 1/3 the price.
