I have built an AR-15 and AR-9 in the past (about 3 years ago) and thinking about stocking up on some parts to build a couple more. The AR-9 I bought parts from everywhere and the AR-15 is mostly PSA parts.
These will not be high end builds yet. Just want some practice before building one with higher end parts.

What lower
What receiver
What barrel (be 16")
What mil spec trigger (do not mind buying spring kits separate)
What forehand

End goal might be a 6.5 Grendel, 224 Valkyrie and 204 Ruger. I think all of them use the same lower.

Just get forged receiver halves from a company you recognize. Same for BCG and LPK minus trigger.

ALG for trigger and handguard. High quality and rugged for very reasonable prices.

I like CMMG for budget mil-spec LPKs. Haven't bought one in a while though - hope that hasn't changed.

I’d wait til Christmas and find an Aero M4E1 builders set. They are sweeeeeet and would be on sale around then.

They come with Matching rail, upper, and lower. Can be black or some cerakote pattern of the day

Lowers and uppers are mostly irrelevant in that 99% are built by the same handful of companies, regardless of the roll mark. As long as they are "in spec" any should be good.

Mil-spec triggers, the ALG or BCM at a minimum. Most mil-spec triggers just stink.

I DO like 'named' barrels because most have stringent QI/QA: Ranier, Faxon, BCM, DD.

Forehands/rails: whatever floats your boat

For lowers, I'd go Aero or Sionics blems. $60-75 for an ambi lower is a wonderful thing. For barrels, it's pretty much BA and then everyone else in regard to value.

I like Aero Gen II lowers because of the built in adjustment to eliminate slop between upper and lower. I’ve been buying them at local gun shows for $60 OTD. For barrels, Ballistic Advantage and AR Performance offer top notch accuracy at a great price.

For those who don’t know, Aero owns Ballistic Advantage. Quality is good across the board

Another vote for Aero.

I've built a few ARs using Delton and Anderson lowers. I've had good luck with them. But up to this point I have always gone with complete assembled uppers. I am in the process now of building an upper and I went with the Aero enhanced upper since I like the way their handguards mount directly to the upper. I was so impressed with it that I bought a Gen II lower to go with it. It cost a little more than the Anderson lowers, but I think it is worth it.
