Which brings us to the sixth point.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the national gun control regime that cascaded into thousands of federal, state, and local gun control measures. Are we safer now than we were in the early 1960s?

Anyone who is honest with himself, with respect to each of these measures, has to concede that they are never effective and they are never enough.

But even if every private sale were not banned, the fact that every transaction would require a Form 4473 would lay the groundwork for a national gun registry.

If you think this is hyperbole, consider the legislation pending in New York, which has banned and licensed guns, and now seeks to search the social media accounts of the privileged few “allowed” to possess them.

"now seeks to search the social media accounts of the privileged few “allowed” to possess them."

Honestly, this part doesnt bother me.
It'd be like them coming on here and reading posts (which anyone can do).
Ok. They want to spend their time doing that, well, WASTING their time doing that - let em, it'd be a lot of penis jokes and Chad's 'wartch'

The bump stock ban is ridiculous, thankfully this is all part of 4D chess and Trump is playing everyone for a fool!

It both bothers and doesn't bother me.

If the .gov wants to look at publically available content (i.e. the public threads on here or a FB profile set to public), go right ahead. That's a hazard the individual knew about and chose to accept by allowing a public profile or posting in public areas.

If the .gov wants to look at something that requires an individual to change a privacy setting set by the individual (i.e. a FB profile set to friends only) or hand over login information (i.e. the Special Access Politics and Basement threads here), then no.
The individual chose to exercise their free speech in as private a manner as was available. The .gov should not be able to search that content or coerce anyone to give up that content without getting into some Fourth Amendment issues.

Who is cool with the gov trampling over freedom of speech.
Nothing in the OPINION piece posted above said anything about the people who MIGHT get watched on Social Media being persecuted for what they posted
All I said was that if they want to look at my insta page, or see what Ive posted here etc then go right on ahead, nothing incriminating whatsoever.

Using what someone says on "social media" which is the modern day equivalent of the town square to decide who can have what seems to be trampling to me. Especially when the what in this case (firearms and equipment) are supposedly guaranteed freedoms. You know that shall not be infringed part.

Ya’ll willing to die on Bump Stock Hill? I’m not. I’m not saying you’re wrong it’s just not the issue that’s gonna flip my switch to open defiance.

We all died a long time ago on "shall not be infringed" hill, at least as early as 1934. The bumpstock death knell is just an after tremor.

All depends on what their definition of is is. I have no problem with looking at my postings. They are public anyway. But basing a decision on allowing me to exercise a God given right, that's one of the problems.

I get it, bump stocks are a gimmick. But I just don't look as cool with my thumb in the belt loop fighting back an overhang at the same time. But seriously, it's just another bayonet lug, barrel shroud, high cap mag, chainsaw bayonet ban that chips away to their ultimate goal. Full total ban.
