Read some reports from SHOT and saw it discussed on a couple forums when I searched...

Anybody have any good intel on Remington shutting down those two lines of products?

Remington needs to go ahead and shut it's self down too.

Wouldn't surprise me. Over saturated AR market, better makers making better products for less money.

Honestly, I thought they were gone many years ago.

How many does that make that they’ve bought and shut down. Wasn’t it Remington that snapped up Para .

No wonder CDNN has been blowing out Bushy and DPMS parts lately.

Hopefully this is a sign to any other manufacturer that if they care about their business living on more so than the cash they could get from selling it, don’t sell to Remington/Freedom group. These investors clearly know nothing about the firearms business and how to make it succeed.

The AR15 market is a race to the bottom. There is no margin in the price point where Bushmaster and DPMS played. The market killed them as much as business management. One thing that these investors do understand is when to pull the plug on a bad investment.

Agreed but that’s where product portfolio management is important. You crank out the low margin/no margin items for the sake of keeping your operations running and maintaining market share. Then you make your money on some strategic new technology product, parts, and services. This is no different in firearms than many other industries, including the one I work in.

DPMS was done as soon as Randy Luth left, Same happened to Bushmaster when they left Maine. Just shell corporations that Big Green milked and dumped. Saturn, Pontiac, Mercury - same basic business model and plotline.
hrm. i didn't know.
I do like Luth-AR though.

The investment group that owns Remington, used to own the business I worked for. The invested millions in our facility and turned around and made a killing off of the sale to a Spanish company. We're still doing very well after their initial investment, but the way the firm handled the businesses they owned doesn't surprise me that these two brands are gone.
