Seven months ago, my family and I moved from California to North Carolina. This morning, I finally got around to taking off the bullet buttons and putting on standard magazine releases (which are illegal in California)! I also bought a 10 pack of 30 round PMAGs (which are also illegal in California). I'm so excited. This is nothing to you free folk, but it's a huge step back toward firearm normalcy for me! I'm never going back to California!

All built by me from 80% lowers while living in California:

AR10 (.308) with 24 inch barrel
AR15 (5.56) with 20 inch barrel
AR15 (5.56) with 16 inch barrel
AR15 Pistol (.300BLK) with 10.5 inch barrel
AR15 Pistol (5.56) with 10.5 inch barrel (MK18 clone)
AR15 Pistol (5.56) with 7.5 inch barrel

Ask me questions if you want to know what any of the components are...

Shame!

Nice!

Welcome to the not so free, but more free than California, state of NC!

Enjoy while you can.

Have you done the PPP or CHP "hurry up and wait" procedure yet?

Hopefully Chatham County isn't like many of the others in NC.

I did both. I bought two ppps when I first got here. Then, as soon as I could take a ccw class, I put in for the chp. I received it a couple of months ago but they sure did take their sweet time. I received the chp on the 90th day after submitting the paperwork. There is no doubt in my mind that the chp was ready sooner. On the day I dropped off the paperwork they told me it would be 90 days. They weren't telling a lie.

A right delayed is a right denied! But I did get it eventually so whatever.

Did you unregister all of these evils when you escaped CA?

Welcome ! Just moved here myself last year from a much more free state across the river [emoji41].

Uh.... Ya need some more mags.

Iā€™d shout ā€œainā€™t freedom greatā€ but NC is far from a free state.

I totally understand that NC is not as free as Alaska, but NC is miles ahead of California and New York... The important thing to consider is, "How do we make NC better, or at least keep it from backsliding the way that NY and CA have?"

While living in CA for the last 12 years, I donated money to the NRA, I posted positive content on Calguns.net (California's version of CarolinaFirearmForums), and I made friends with liberals at work for ONE REASON and that was to get them used to the idea of enjoying firearms. I would take them to the shooting range, pay for the shooting lane, teach them gun safety, hand them my guns, and let them shoot my bullets ALL FOR FREE, so that I could try to turn them away from the "All Guns are Scary" mindset...

And with all of that, the gun laws continued to get worse every year until I literally packed up my family, sold my old house, bought a new house, and hauled all of my belongings 3000 miles in a cargo trailer ALL BECAUSE OF GUN LAWS. Seriously... That was the only reason...

So, we need to get together over a few beers and decide what we need to do to make sure that NC never turns into CA... I'll do anything it takes because I do not want to move again. I'm ready to die on my new land and be buried in it with my guns.

Thing is, all the other Californians and Yankees and illegals and foreigners moving to NC donā€™t share your ideals.
Talking about things doesnā€™t seem to work when you are out voted.
It is a novel idea, I wish it was the answer but I am afraid in this day and age it has no merit.

But Iā€™m still glad to see people that share our ideals move in.
Welcome.

Well then we can get together over a few beers and talk about something else... But, there has to be a way to stop this constant attack on safe and legal gun owners' rights. I'm feeling like a minority and I am definitely being repressed... :(

True.

Donā€™t let them get to ya.

I'm glad that you escaped with your family and your sanity. Living here, we do take a lot of our freedoms for granted. Like you said, we all need to be aware that our gun rights are being taken away little by little. We need to do our best to keep it from getting worse. Great looking bunch of firearms. I may "know" someone that has built an 80% or 3 myself.

I just found these pictures from 2 years ago when I had just completed the AR 308 build... I took it outside to take pictures of it and my (at the time) 3 yo daughter asked if she could decorate it with some flowers she picked from mommy's garden.

Well, you did move to Pittsboro. :D

Only 90 days? That's warp speed compared to some counties! Mine was a total of 165 days in Mecklenburg. 144 after waiting 21 to get printed. Check out some of the threads on the subject. It's shameful!

Glad you made it here. This has been a great forum.

@Alabamacoastie

I am local to you. If you ever want to talk guns or go pop some caps, send me a pm. There's a bunch of us local that shoot a lot of matches, so if you have a desire to do any of that, we'll point you in right direction!

I was surprised when I moved out here that it took me longer to get a pistol than in CA!

Welcome from an NC native. Glad you escaped the State of Perpetual Weirdness.
What pattern/upper is on your .308 AR?

It's DPMS pattern, made by a San Diego company called JD Machine... The 80% lower and handguard are made by a company called JL Billet. JL also machines his own uppers now. He sells 80% lowers with matching upper receivers. He also makes some really cool adjustable butt stocks machined out of aluminum.

I have a US Border Patrol rollmarked (AR15) lower from JDM. Nice piece. Thought it would be a nice FDE build...and it was

Heck yeah. That would look great! Did you already build it? Any pics? I'm a sucker for FDE.

I built it a couple years ago, but don't think I have a pic handy. I use the various Magpul furniture to color-code by calibers. So, I have two 300BLK ARs in FDE. 10" and 16". I'll get a pic for you sometime this week.

Here you go. Kept pondering doing a color fill job on the USBP logo, but I haven't decided.

(And yes, the barrel on the SBR has been powdercoated in Magpul FDE )
