I need/want some calipers to add to my toolbox - any that you recommend? They all about the same as far as quality?
I dont know if I want to do digital or not, open to suggestions

Thanks yall

Let me add, too, that I'd like to get one with a roller feature, so I can "creep up" to my piece that Im measuring

I've been shopping for one as well. After using a VERY nice Helios dial set recently I have to junk the harbor freight POS I have.
I looked into the Starrett caliper recently and it was getting some harsh reviews - made in china with plastic internals for $125+... no thanks

You get what you pay for like most anything. If you go digital (I do) get Mitutoyo, industry standard in my parts.
The 6" pn: 500-196-30 is under $100 on the evil amazon.

Anything lesser is and will always be nothing but a pita, in my opinion.

+ another 1

Here's a set that is about 20 years old and still working perfectly ...

Got mine off the Matco truck, not sure who makes them, decade on, still working.

Digital is great, but I do want a analog back-up.

My digi does wierd things when it gets dirty, when I was turning wrenches in a truck shop dirty was the norm.

Mitutoya, Starrett, and Brown and Sharp have been the industry standards for years. There are some pretty decent offbrand digital calipers that are a good value for the $. Grizzly's inexpensive digital calipers are a good value and the owner of Grizzly is a big 2a supporter.

If you aint doin it for a living, go to the Harbor.
Just how mant thousandth are there in an inch? :D:confused:

These have proven to be very good IME.

under 20 bucks shipped, might be what I end up choosing.
Like BASIL said, Im not doing it for a living, wont get used but a few times a year more than likely

Hard to justify 100+ on something like that.

I was skeptical, but only needed to measure the diameter of some led deck lighting so I was not concerned with longevity. Since then I have found myself grabbing them time after time. Being able to change the display from digital to fraction has worked out wonderfully. If they gave up the ghost I would just buy them again.

I have 3 pair of ChiComs from Hazzard Fraught tools. At 10 bucks a pop I figured I could throw one away. If I could find the dang things I'd send you a set.

"ChiComs" We call them slam cals at work. We use them for non critical work.
If you drop one, it doesn't hurt near as bad as dropping a pair of B&S.

Get a digital one from Horrible Fright. Cheap and pretty damn good actually. Usually less

+1 for Mitutoya dial. Batteries NEVER wear out. If you can interpret a dial clock you can read a dial caliper.
