I’m rethinking my camping cook set. I’ve got an MSR set that I have used the last 5 years or so. I haven’t had to backpack it too far and I’ve used it far less than I have liked. Seeing so many saying that the Stanley cook set is good has got me thinking. Well that and mine has a non-stick coating that I am wary about now for obvious reasons.

I do like the nesting of the three pots and pans. Any suggestions on a decent, reasonably priced set/pot? I’m thinking stainless or titanium. Pictures of my current set up are below.

What kind of cooking are you doing, and is that big of set needed for it?

If you're just boiling water, or needing a container to mix something in for yourself, then the Stanley is good option. There are lighter options out there, but they will cost more especially if they are Ti. MSR does have a smaller version of that with 2 pots/skillet that has worked well when I have more than myself to cook for. I wouldn't bring it unless I was cooking for at least 3 people, maybe 2 if we're car camping.

Most of the time I am cooking for my wife and I. I had planned on getting the Stanley for an outing where I only have to worry about me, but a set that can cook for at least two people is desired. I mainly don’t want aluminum due to it seems to impart taste to everything, and anything with a non-stick coating is terrible for you.

I completely concur. I really don't like aluminum for cooking either.

Here's the one I use the most often:

For one person the Stanley is most excellent. I love mine.

Here's my entire Stanley rig:

Stanley pot, Walmart steel cup and my Trangia stand. Trangia itself, hot beverage items, pot hanger made from a coat hanger and my spice wheel nest inside. I added the hang tabs myself since I use fire more than the Trangia. I now stick a washcloth in the mug to make it fit snugly and have a short bungee to hold everything together, utensils are a long Ti spoon that goes in the same bag.

I like that setup. I think I might end up using some of your mods.

"Any suggestions on a decent, reasonably priced set/pot?"

since my friends and i are CHEAP...3 things:
1. i still use my bad, old, aluminum Boy Scout sets.
2. they tend to bring what their wives wanted to throw out.
3. in my opinion, it doesn't matter. while camping, food tastes GOOD.

Yep! Cheap and aluminum works since it is light and easier to carry.

How does food taste prepared in titanium cookware? Wondered if it it was similar to aluminum.

I used to backpack a 12" aluminum dutch oven in the Rockies. Lighter then my cast iron ones and cooked faster. Just remember to season it like a cast one before heading out.

You have to watch it while cooking like aluminum though. Stuff can tend to burn and stick more than stainless.

If you want a hands on, I'm in Kernersville NC, so if you're in the vicinity I can let you take a look/cook.
If I head that way I’ll definitely hit you up. Thanks for the offer.

First thing I’m going to do with the 24oz set is break off that plastic lid tab and put a metal ring on it.

You’re gonna burn your finger(s)

:D

I did that on my Stanley pot, not burned myself yet. When it's been on the heat a while I use a stick.
You’re smarter than the average Brit, err bear
