Going through some boxes that belonged to my dad, grandfather etc. I’m thinking these are real, but is there any where to learn more about them? Appreciate any info.

Can he request his dad and grandad service record and learn more? They still do that, right?

Can request, but most were lost in a fire.

Can request, but most were lost in a fire.

Contact the national archives, a group of files were destroyed in the fire (h thru j for instance), and even those destroyed can sometimes be rebuilt by using other Veterans records (awards often list multiple service members on them, as on example)

With the exception of his CIB, we were able to get all of my dad's replaced in time for his funeral. One of my brother's friends loaned his for the occasion. Eventually we received the replacement.
