Was shooting M&P shield with silencerco barrel, speer 147 tmj, through an optimus. I say I got off about 50 rounds before a round got locked in with the slide about 1/8 of an inch out of battery. I removed the barrel and notice the bullet no longer completely fits in. Trying to figure out if it was too much pressure or if I had a bad round? Either way, I think the barrel is trashed.

Pictures? Using a piston/booster, correct?

So with the barrel out of the pistol no rounds pass plunk test? Or they just won’t chamber in the assembled pistol

So by your account: because one round didn't fit into the chamber you have concluded your barrel is trashed.
Can you elaborate a little bit?

What they said.

There are a number of reasons a round can get stuck in a chamber. Carbon build up (which is usually accelerated by a suppressor). A match grade barrel with a tighter tolerance. A barrel that is out of spec. A casing that is out of spec. An over charged round that swelled the casing to much.

And about 50 other things.

A little more information and maybe a pic or two will help us identify the cause or at least steer you in the right direction.

Sorry for the late pic. Just got back home to take one.

Yes, using booster/piston. Slide won't close with a round in and with the barrel removed, it looks like it won't go all the way in.

I was hoping it was just carbon build up myself so it's been soaking in CLP since last night. As of now, a round still won't fit. I'll continue to soak and see if I can break any thing up that's in there.

I'm going to assume any factory cartridge you try does that... right?
Do you have the piece of brass from the round you fired before this happened?
That looks like something is stuck in your chamber. Try feeling around with a dental pick or just a bent paper clip. Shine a light inside and maybe look with a magnifying glass or use your cell phone camera to blow it up. The cameras on these things are so good you can almost use them like a microscope.

To answer your question, no, the silencer didn’t cause excessive pressure and excessive pressure isn’t causing this problem.

Assuming that factory rounds won’t plunk then you’ve either got somethings not stuck in the chamber, or you had a squib and the bullet is just inside the barrel.

After a couple days of soaking in oil, finally found the culprit. Catfish was right, a piece of the casing sheered off and jammed itself against the lip. Took a dental pick and a little muscle to remove as it was well

Thanks JimB, that was the answer I was looking for.

So how much for the trashed barrel?..... glad you figured it out and back on target. I would inspect the rest of that box of ammo, or be waiting for it to happen again. Lets hope it was just a fluke...
