Academy is having a good BF sale on these for $599. Strongly considering getting one.

There is supposed to be a small hole that I will have to drill out to run electrical. I'm not much of an electrician in nature. I've seen videos of people buying the wires, outlets and clamps and I've seen videos of people buying surge protectors, cutting the end off, running the wire through and then replacing the end cut off with a new electrical end.

For anyone with electrical experience, would the surge protector way be safe it would that be an extremely high fire hazard?

I dont think it’s a bad deal but what I worry about are the digital locks. Whenever I am in acadamy they are usually broken or hanging off the safe. Looks cheaply made and the inside is a tad cheap. For $600 bucks though it’s a big safe but I may look into replacing the digital keypad with a better quality one.

I have four safes of differing name brands that all have the exact same cheap electric lock panel. I treat mine well and only open my safes about once a week. They have lasted well over the last 5 years.

The ones in the store are torn up because a$$holes go in there and break them on purpose.

I bought a used American Security safe that had an electronic lock. I didn't like it at all and replaced it with a real mechanical dial S&G. The replacement lock was around $130 and I like it much better than the digital one. I don't understand why the stores don't stock more of the mechanical ones? I guess I'm just old school?

Many Cannon safes have an electrical 'panel' installed.... mine does, but just have not used it. meybe one day....
considering changing from the electric keypad lock... trying to determine how to remove the inner panel of the door, seeing no fasteners...

sorry for hijack :(

Because a lock you buy for $130 probably costs the safe company $75 or so. The cheap plastic code panel can't possibly be costing them more than $5. If you figure they're likely building the entire safe for well under $500... $70 difference is a large percent they don't HAVE to spend if they can convince you the code panel is as good or better.

My safe is a little over stuffed... but I don't trust the digital ones. Too many are junk and just fail withotu warning

Sound advice regarding digital/mechanical lock swap!
Electronic locks by their very nature are just not as robust as a quality mechanical replacement...period.
Over time, batteries and contacts can corrode, wires loosen , and micro-touch keypads are trouble prone.
One caution with a mechanical lock is to avoid using the key feature entirely as they are the one weak link in most dual mechanical locks.

I was reading on Cannons website that you cant switch to mechanical locks on there safes because of features are different on the safe. I've looked for videos on switching an electronic lock for a mechanical lock on cannon safes but haven't came up with anything yet.

Found how to remove the door panel in this video.

^^^^^^^^^^^ thank you! it 'felt' like that is how it would detach, but did not want to 'unload' it until sure....

certainly would not reinstall a keypad....
