Walker's hearing protection is one of my Guide Services sponsors and will periodically send me products to use and review. I recently received a pair of the BlueTooth Ear Bud hearing protectors. Today is the deadline for me to submit a review and when it wasn't a glowing 10 the site refused to accept it.
I've had Walker's products in the past and always sent in honest reviews and not all of them were glowing 10's across the board. I guess a letter is in order so my relationship is severed, I never dreamed it would end in this manner......

Ah, reviews!

I take most reviews with a grain of salt, if only because most people don't know how to write a decent review in the first place.

I'm sure this is frustrating for a lot of people, especially those whose livelihood may hinge on reviews.

First of all, one's written review should adequately address the rating given. If a 10 out of 10 is given, there really ought to be details which explicitly explain WHY. Same for a 1 out of 10.

Ratings which are one extreme or the other with no decent justification I will pretty much ignore.

Written reviews which are obviously subjectively written in ways that don't apply to me, I likewise ignore. Especially if it's apparent by the writing style/spelling/grammar that the person leaving the review is a biased idiot.

Product reviews ought to be able to stand on their own in an honest fashion. Rarely is any given product REALLY a 10/10 from EVERYBODY who tries it.

And I'm with @Catfish...if you are allowed, I'd be interested in reading your review here.

I picked up a set like @Bailey Boat described a couple months ago. They work...OK. I'm not blown away by them at all. I did wear them for a rifle class and had them in all day. Again, they worked. But more of a "meh" kinda reaction. The iPhone app they brag about is about useless.

I had a set of these from 3m/Peltor. Underwhelming. Wind noise was a problem. Amplification was insufficient for hunting, tactical, or training use.

I’ve got the non phone type ear buds. They aren’t the most comfortable things in the world. They work, but barely. I own several sets of their headphones and they do great!

I didn't even know they were sending a set so shipping was a moot point. When I unboxed them they seemed pretty straight forward, pick which ear cushions and wraps you prefer, small, med, large. Changing them wasn't an issue and directions seemed pretty easy, good for me!!
Then the issues began, I tried downloading the Walker app and my Droid wasn't liking it too much but after several tries it finally allowed the download. As soon as I tried using the app to control the buds it locked up and refused to do anything. Uninstall then reinstall. Second attempt was same as the first, no joy in Kannapolis. I then tried to adjust the buds manually and it can be done but not without being a PITA. I thought it might be my phone so I then switched to my work iPhone and the app downloaded just fine but still locked up when trying to control the buds. Walkers website didn't help any and of course no one was available on the phone.
I used them for 2 weeks in "manual" mode and then got the review form from Walkers on Monday and filled it out with the same info as I have done in this post but it won't accept it. I guess they don't care for less than 10 out of 10 reviews. So the moral of the story is to take "reviews" with a grain of salt since they seem to be strictly controlled. I have been doing reviews on sponsors products for many years and this is the first time I've ever had a negative review declined.

Tim, If you used them all day and they worked, it seems they did just what you paid for. What would have had to happen to Not get a Meh?

You're right, as usual. My last post was kinda rushed as I was busy buying a house...

1. These are supposed to work like the Howard Leight muffs....amplify conversation/ambient sounds and then cut-off above certain decibels (gun shots)
2. I found the ambient sounds cutting off frequently, turning the buds into overpriced earplugs
3. The 'app' that is supposed to control different settings for Left and Right was flaky to the point of uselessness
4. The manual control buttons to turn on/off (necessary to reset after they cut out) are actually painful to use while in ear as they require a significant amount of pressure to actuate.

They DID protect my hearing for a full day of class and they ARE comfortable. I did not return them and they still live in my bag for every range trip. BUT, I find myself using the considerably cheaper Walker Razors - behind the neck style - a lot more often.

Often when I buy a new product off of Amazon I'll get a request for a review almost before I get the product. If people are giving their reviews before a thorough shake down of the product it's useless.

I once fell for one of those "debug your computer services" and the experience was an ordeal. I had to stay available for 4 days while they worked on an issue. They never got it to work right and after they pestered me for days for a review that I had no intention of giving but I finally wrote an honest one. They refunded my money and deleted my review. They were from India.

I just LOVE all of the reviews that say, "I haven't used it yet, but it looks great!"

When buying from Amazon, or any other place that lists reviews, I throw out the best and the worst reviews and read the ones in the middle. That's where I find the most useful information.

Anybody here used this style of Walker’s? If so, your thoughts?

Yes, I have a pair of Razors, their okay for "normal" range activities. I shoot low gun Sporting Clays and the comb line of the shotgun sometimes catches on the cord. Their comfortable and have good range adjustment but are hell with wind noise....
