Capital City Gun Show Raleigh, NC July 1-2 2017

Yeah, the Dixie is much better, but I'm not far from the fairgrounds. For the entry fee, I consider it to be cheap entertainment.

I'll be there SAT. I'm picking up a Gunbroker purchase from one of the vendors there.

I might have to go too Mr Rudder. I need some gun show therapy. If we both go, we could share some greasy slop together again at the café?

Oh absolutely!! Right now I am planning on going Saturday morning, but that could change.

We will be there at the Backwoods Bang Shop booth. Drop by and see us.

Typically I save the weekly "gun show" post until Thursday.

I would love a couple of those:

Smith and Wesson M&P 9 Shield 8 round Extended mags (new in original packaging) $15 each

And I can meet you at the Raleigh show tomorrow with cash. Thank you sir!

Sounds good. How many would you like? I'll stick them back for you. Thanks.

Isn't this show smaller and held in the smaller building not the big hall? If so it's gonna be hot and since it falls on the week of the 4th ... well those who do show might be a little more open to haggling ... maybe.

Yeah, C&E is the smaller show. Sometimes it is in the large building, this one happens to be in the smaller Expo building next door. The C&E in December has also been in the Expo building.

The wife is going with me this morning to "keep me out of trouble". Sheesh, you impulse buy 1 gun every few years and suddenly I'm a liability.

Only thing I enjoyed was seeing Cubrock. Had no idea backwoods were there. If I didn't see Chinese stuff I keep walking. Only thing I seen wanted I probably could not have afforded.
Mid 20's thick brunette with some black yoga pants.

Saw two guns just like the one I bought yesterday. I paid $400 at the LGS, at the show they were $500 and $600, so that makes me happy.

First gun show since I moved to NC and I was pretty disappointed because I actually get better prices on most of the stuff I buy like powder etc at Fuquay gun. It's sad also to see that the guys at the show just can't compete with online prices. Id much prefer to spend my money local but when I can get it 15 or even 20 percent cheaper I gotta go online. Got some mags from backwoods and he was super cool with an awesome price. Would love to do business with him again.

Slight rant here...after spending $10 to get in (meaning I'm already $10 more than whatever the prices are there), I walked around. All I saw was mostly cheap Chicom knock-offs (optics) and everything else was retail or close to it. Most items I could buy at Cabela's for less. I went looking for ammo and a .458 Socom upper. No one had the upper, not even close. Mostly overpriced brand names. The ammo was retail except for the guys making their own.

I priced most the guns I already had, like my Tavor x95. Cheapest I saw was over $1600. Bought mine at CDN for $1390.

Used to be gun shows were where you could go for great prices and good selection. Not anymore.

Anyone willing to grab mags from @knifeman32 for me? I can't make it to the show this weekend.

I'll offer a mixed 6-pack of decent beer to the carrier.

Thanks.

Just speaking generally here but what gun did you buy for $400 that was $600 at the show?

The only reason I ask is that our prices are generally cheaper than online or at a minimum close and typically cheaper than brick and mortar gun shops. If you tell me what gun is was, I'll tell you what I would have sold it to you for.

Can't speak for everyone else. But we sell a lot of guns and our prices are pretty good. Granted we do not stock tavor's simply because they do not sell particularly well at the shows. But I'll be happy to price anything you want me to in the future.

I just don't think all gun show dealers should be painted in the same color.

I would have to agree with that statement, he actually gave me a really good quote on a gun I would have loved to got for my daughter but just didn't have the funds at the moment. But I can definitely see how online measures just drive the local and little guys under.

Where were y'all at. I wasn't looking for shop names. I was looking at the stuff on tables. If I didn't see Chinese stuff I keep walking.

What shop were you? Yes, absolutely not painting everyone with one broad stroke. There were some very good vendors there. The Defender Ammo guys are one of my favorites and picked up a couple of boxes from them. But in general, I think everyone has their prices jacked up so they have room to haggle. I'm not a haggler. I look at the price you're asking to start with.

What shop were you and where are you located? What do you sell? I'm come back and see you tomorrow.

I own backwoods bang shop. We were in the front row on one of the middle rows. We run 8-10 tables typically. We work 48 shows a year on average. We are usually in the same place at this show.

I rarely get to walk around to see if anything chicom is out there. But were located up front in one of the middle rows. Sorry I missed you.

I wasn't going to say but I got to shoot it today and it's fun enough I can take the abusive comments from the forum folk.... I got a 9mm Keltec sub2k gen2 that uses the glock mags. It was $399 new at FG&G on Thursday. Saw two there at the show (which is amazing for the 9mm I think, usually they're the .40 versions that no one seems to snap up) at the afore mentioned $500 and $600 price points.

What I really wanted was to find one of those kydex people to have them make me a sheath for a knife, but the only dude there doing it didn't do knives.

We sell the sub 2k's in the standard black color at $349 plus tax for a cash sale. But we keep a wait list on them. We work so many shows that we accumulate a large wait list on gins like that. We usually get a few a month but the wait list stays so long that we can never get caught up on them. We have several forum members on that list and some that have already purchased them in the past. We usually don't keep the 40's long either as we sell those at the same price.

They are super fun to shoot for the record. So I don't blame you for buying one at all. A good friend of mine purchase one and they are neat little guns.

How was the show Mr Rudder?
I walked around for two hours and covered the whole show. I picked up a box of large rifle magnum primers (main reason I went) and some 22LR (impulse) for decent prices. I did not see a couple of powders I was interested in. Blue Collar Reloading was not there, but Cover Six was. Other than that, I was just looking around. I did see good prices on several guns, but I did see the Sub 2Ks that were over priced. OTOH I saw PMR 30s for $399 which was tempting.

If I had to drive for an hour to get there, I would not have gone. But I live close by so I try to hit every show in Raleigh.

Things I went looking for:

Optic for my .300 Blackout - Something AR optic style in x-9 x 30 or so preferably with a BDC reticle

Optic for my .223 - Similar to above for .223/5.56

.458 Socom upper or parts to build one

Pistol sight tool for adjusting/removing rear and blade sights on a semi-auto

10mm Ammo - Preferably Underwood or Sig - FMJ brass case 155g, 165g, or 180g

Sig 320Rx with Romeo1 (priced similar to what I've seen some other shops price)

MPX in 9mm

Drop in triggers; Ruger RPR, AR, Tavor

New holsters; Sig 1911, FNX-45, Sig P220 Hunter

Grips for Sig 1911

I was at the show Saturday from 10 to 12:15. I went for no other reason, than to go to a gun show. Maybe pick up some Hornady stuff? I saw a couple of Hornady digital scales, but that was it. No pickup tubes, or lockup rings. Any other purchases would have been by impulse. I would have been tempted by a .357 SP101, with 3 inch barrel.

As usual, I saw a lot of over priced stuff. Some of the vendors don't seem to realize that most of us have access to the internet, when it comes to their pricing.

I didn't see a single soul that I knew. Except for knifeman 32. And, I didn't get to speak with him. Kudos to knifeman32, for his decent prices and for the courtesies offered by him, and his staff. Very, very busy Saturday. I came close to purchasing a gen. 4 Glock 19. Good price! I managed to defeat that impulse.

I made my first purchase from him at the WS show last May. Couldn't have been a more pleasant transaction and won't be my last.

While I was drooling over the guns, his dad entertained my wife and daughter. "Hey little girl, want some candy?" Yeah, really!

L2S, I agree completely. When I saw him post that he had magazines for sale, I wondered whether you'd jump on it.

As I mentioned, I made my first purchase (a Shield and a BG 380) from him in May. He's a great guy, has great prices on the biggest selection of new guns you'll see in a show and is just a pleasure to do business with.

I understand that small vendors have trouble competing with the online giants. I mostly go to be entertained and to pick up small stuff where a high price doesn't really matter (i.e., gun rugs, brushes/jags/rods, etc.).

Actually, the large vendors I find price things at retail also. I figured most of the folks at these gun shows have little overhead except for the show itself. They should be able to offer some great bargains. Especially if they have a captive audience of thousands of potential customers in a 2 day period.
