I haven't had a chance to take the door panels off and check for a loose connection, but my driver's door speaker goes in and out (sounds like it) until the volume is turned up. I don't know if it's a loose connection or the receiver has an issue.

If it's the receiver, how could one tell??

It's a JVC DVD receiver and 6x9 NVX speakers in DirtyScape (08 Escape).

Pull the radio from the dash, and hook up a test speaker to the left front output leads. See if the problem follows the head unit or the speaker. Sounds like some corrosion in the tiny wires going into the voice coil. When the voltage gets high enough, the connection completes.
