Not sure what’s more impressive. The driver’s control going flat out slinging that beast around the track like a rag doll, or...

I know the 'convertible' cobras are better loved, but I've always had a thing for the Hard Top. Presumably imprinted on me by the first scale racetrack set I got as a child.

If I had the time/talent/tools/cash I'd love to build up a kit car of one. Such a shame I have none of those.

Factory Five Racing has a gen 3 edition of the Daytona Coupe that they introduced a few years ago. They call it the Type 65. They completely redesigned their own gen 2 frame for greater strength and rigidity, and lowered the footboxes for more leg and headroom. Whitby Motorcars in Greensboro makes a living out of assembling and completing these replicas. I visited their shop maybe five years ago. It was going to be at least $65k minimum to have them build one. Too rich for my blood. But they are sexy.

Well that takes care of the time/talent/tools part. Can you fix the cash part as well?

Asking for a friend.

I'll agree the coupes are way cooler than the convertibles

Seen a couple real daytonas. Beautiful. But man, they are stripped race cars. Thrilling and...... painful. Only (mostly) fun on a track. Street driving is a chore.
The F5 maybe a little better. Be awesome on the track though!

I'm too old for it. I'll take a Porsche Turbo S with air conditioning and a cigar lighter, roll down windows. No winch needed to get me out, etc.

For us old farts they are just garage jewelry.

That’s why all those $85,000 - $200,000 Superformance replicas come up for sale after 8 years with only 1,500 miles on them.

Lemme tell you…go do one of those exotic car driving things and you’ll have a far better appreciation for this.

Wife got me a birthday present to drive a Challenger wide body at Charlotte speedway years ago. Being a guy who only drives pickup trucks, I’m not used to driving a sports car, let alone one tuned for staying glued to the track. My internal mechanisms told me I was wayyyyy past the point of equilibrium and I need to slow down. The coach/monitor guy that was with me kept telling me to give it more gas through the turns. My brain just wouldn’t let me—I’m used to trucks that would roll over at the mere thought of what I was doing!

I thought I was hauling azz! Wife showed me footage from the stands of my laps afterwards. I’ve seen grannies get groceries faster than. I was putting along!!!
