This is a SAM7SF with 24x1.5mm RH threads and an AK74 style brake. Not pinned and welded or loctited as I’ve had it off before. If I recall correctly, I even applied silver anti seize before I put the brake back on last time. I’ve been hosing it every few hours with PB blast and will continue to do so for another day or so. I’ve tried rapping smartly on the brake with a plastic hammer and applying a little leverage with a dowel through the brake, but I don’t want to twist too hard. Yes, I’m pressing the little stick out button in.

Is the next step a little heat?

The brake doesn’t need to come off, except I’d like to clean in there.

I'd dip the whole muzzle end in a jar of Kroil or Carbon Cutter overnight and try again the next day.

If all else fails, a propane torch would likely do the trick, though you'd be saying goodbye to your finish. A heat gun is probably too slow and will heat the barrel as much as the muzzle device.

Tried dipping it in boiling water for a few minutes? Maybe add some Simple Green like an ultrasonic cleaner.

Things like this will just irritate me all day and night until I can either get past the hurdle or destroy everything in the process. Fortunately I’m a bit more methodical and patient these days.

I managed to get the whole thing into a vise with my wooden AR barrel block supporting the barrel and front sight base. A few tippy taps on the dowel and she started to budge and then came unscrewed.

The design of this brake really seems to capture a significant amount of soot and gridue and blast it back onto the muzzle. Maybe I’ll switch out to a more open design or a flash hider that lets that crud blow forward.

You shooting it suppressed or no?

The 74-style brake is fantastic for recoil, but notorious for carbon locking as you've experienced here. I usually take mine off every so often and clean them with Carbon Cutter.

If you don't want to fuss with that, the VG6 Epsilon is a wonderful aftermarket muzzle device that looks excellent on AKs.

Would an ultrasonic cleaner work ?
Suspend the rifle so only the muzzle is in the solution ??

I've had this same issue. I had to have DigitalPaladin remove one for me. @IUHoosier429 you have a link for the carbon remover you use?

I had an issue with my Arsenal SLR after I'd had it a while.

To keep from having the issue pop up again I replaced the stock brake with a Bulgarian chrome lined model of the same design, and I slathered the threads in anti-seize compound.

Haven't had an issue in years.

Propane torch for a minute or 2 and leverage. It will come off. I try to take mine off and put it back on after each use. My 5.45 will lock up after 100 rounds like it’s welded on.
