Carolina Bays, today's Geo lesson

All of Carolina Forest, and a ton of other places around it were all Carolina Bays, used to love hunting in there. Used to hunt right off International drive. Also watched the bears alot. I think they got the OK to tear it all up by agreeing to not develop some land up in Oconee county that is almost vertical and uninhabitable.

I always thought they were pretty cool looking.
Here is a large cluster of bays southeast of Fayetteville.

I worked with a guy that made it a 5 year quest to have one made into a state park around Lake City. The Reps then made him the Park Ranger. He quit working with me and in 5 years was Dead as Julius Ceasar. Drank himself to death age 45. We always called it The Shining Syndrom.
We went there again last Fall...it is beautiful 40 years later. Hey how 'bout this...no skeeters! They don't like the Carolina Bays.

There are no natural lakes in N'of Cahlina, except those bays. Lake Mattamuskeet is the largest, unless you count the Dismal Swamp.

Mattamuskeet is fabulous from October thru February, birds, ducks, geese and swans. Amazing!
