Carry on the AT

Day hike, multi-day, through hike? Weight tolerance and carry method would vary I think depending on those factors. Generally speaking those I've spoken with while hiking ( a few years ago ) were going with light weight pocket guns like S&W Bodyguard .380 carried in a small admin style pouch. Pouch mounted to the backpack belt.

I carry an LCR in .38spl in my right hip pocket of my pack. I started bringing it with me after the Roanoke, VA attack last May.

I only hike in states where my license is accepted. I have no plans to do the whole thing, only 3-7 day hikes.

I carried a G43 in a Hill People Chest rig a few weeks ago for a few days on the trail. I haven’t hiked that far in years and really had to much weight and had to quit early because of knee pain. Made it 25 miles out of the planned 40 but will be reevaluating for our planned fall hike. Chest rig was comfortably but most of my other gear is old and heavy. Also, I still need to loose another 20 pounds which I’m sure will help.

Just did 4 days in the Smokies. Taurus 605, .357, open carried on my hip belt. Even talked to one of the volunteer camp rangers while carrying. When I told him what I had he said that sounded like a good choice. lol I want something that could handle a bear, but I don't carry because of bears.
